Premier League 2022/23 (Part 1)

Not this?

Wolves say three arrests have been made after homophobic chanting during win over Chelsea - BBC Sport

3 arrests, at last a deterrent.

In other news, chanting about football tragedies runs the risk of having your behaviour described as unacceptable.

Looks like Chelsea wonā€™t even make the ECL and tbh I would prefer that over having to start in that awful competition.

Hiring Frank to ensure they donā€™t qualify for it was a smart choice, not that they werenā€™t on the way already but just to be sure.

todays results for man u, spurs and newcastle confirms what we knew weeks ago. 4th is gone. hopefully we stay 8th or below and miss the awful europa comps

Not sure why people would want to miss out on the Europa.

Itā€™s not particularly hurt Arsenal. I can understand the argument on the conference League but we can probably send our U23s away and get through on our Squad and U23s at home.

We can bed our youngsters in it, those on the fringes and not even there. Rest hasnā€™t particularly demonstrated any benefit and we avoid being on at lunch times on Saturday :joy:

Because people are arrogant, entitled, and feel that we are better than the rest of football.

Or maybe itā€™s just their opinion that playing in Thursday European competition may be detrimental to the rebuild we clearly need.
But then theyā€™re probably plastic fans, so their opinion wont count.

Obviously I want us at the top of the league, winning the champions league an yada yada yada.

But, unironically, the Champions League is a bit stale. We play the same 7 or 8 teams every single season. Conference League might be ā€œbelow usā€ in some minds but it would be at least interesting to see a different club every now and again.

Plus it would mean a lot of game time for our young players - and we have a lot of them.

I think this year is somewhat exceptional as teams expected to dominate top four have struggled.

I understand why people dont want us to play in Europa League next season as it doesnt generate much revenue and messes up routine. However, i cant help but prefer that to no european football. Its another trophy to win and gateway to CL and as Sweeting says an opportunity to blood some youngsters.

Of all the major trophies (7 as per LFC Champions Wall) the Europa/UEFA Cup is the only one that Klopp has yet to win.
Itā€™s arugably the least important of them all but it would be nice for Kloppo to ā€œgrand slamā€ the lot.
Even the prize below it, ie the Community Shield (not on the Champions Wall) was won by him.

No problem with starting in the EL - would love us to win that trophy actually.

But ECL? For what?

Play the kids? We all know Klopp would still mix up some first teamers with fringe players and some younger players.

Wait until Kostas and Carvalho do their knees on some semi professional pitches in Latvia and Lithunia.

Or having to travel back from Isreal or Armenia on a Thursday night knowing you have to play away against City (who played on Tuesday in the CL) on Sunday.

Two reasons why I wouldnā€™t mind Conference or even Europa League is the development of young players (provided Klopp decides to shuffle the pack and focus on PL) and obviously because the chance of them visiting these parts where I live would be higher.

That said, I doubt weā€™ll manage to qualify for either. Every time we win 7:0, our subsequent games see us completely fall apart!

arsenal went out of all cups early and its helped them massively.

its nothing to do with CL snobbery but some of the teams in the EL & EC - no ones heard of and there are lots of nothing games.

unless we played just the kids or back up first teamers then id like to see us miss out.

The Conference League Trophy is missing in our cabinet

This season has been really poor, but at this stage of the season it is what it isā€¦ Until the calculus says differently, we have to still believe top 4 is doable. Not too keen on the Europa to be honest, because without being in Europe, it means a full weeks training for most weeks where tactics for new and established personnel can be inaugurated fully. It also takes a bit of pressure off Jurgen and might even allow him some respite from the pressures of the last few seasonsā€¦ Then there is a chance we can go out and blitz each game and march on the PL title with a style of football we love to seeā€¦ Has any team ever won the PL with 114pointsā€¦ :0)

I am with you regarding Europa League but I wonder if any team has actually won the Premier League in a season they didnā€™t have European football?

Leicester? Not sure.

Leicester springs to mind, or maybe not, but no-one is interested in themā€¦ Just feel the whole club need a complete re-set and a chance to catch our breathā€¦

City and Chelsea still in CL

ManU still in EL

West Ham still in ECL (winning it would qualify them for EL)

ManU won League Cup

City, ManU, Sheffield and Brighton still in FA Cup

Last season 5th and 6th place qualified for EL and 7th for ECL. Will it be the same for this year? Still too early to predict?
