Premier League 2022/23 (Part 1)

Their thinking last summer must have been more patient, improve quality and try to close the gap on the top 4. Chelsea, Liverpool, and to a lesser extent Spurs all imploding has made their task much easier.

3 windows. They brought in Trippier, Burn and Guimarães in the winter window last season a couple of months after the take

Once European football is thrown into the mix they’ll struggle a bit. They’ll bring players in again in the summer, but making it gel wont be straight forward for them. Dont see them challenging for the title for another couple of seasons.

According to the above they have spent 400 million euro net over the past 5 seasons, more than ourselves and city.315 million euro of that in the past 2 years. Not exactly starting from scratch this season.

Guimaraes is the difference maker in that trio…Trippier has decent assists to him but his pass interception is insane!

In economics there’s a concept called the middle income trap…that once a country becomes a middle income one the things that worked to take them from a low income one dont work anymore. Things have to be reimagined to keep improving and its a difficult transition to make (see workers demanding livable salaries in China and the trickle down effects of that). The same is true for football. If you’re a low midtable side there are lots of areas to improve and a LOAD of players you can find to improve you. Once you’ve hit this stage its a lot harder to find the upgrades and you then have to deal with not just an individual comparison of whether player x is better than y, but you’ve got a chemistry that is working that any new player could disrupt.

It’s part of why guys like Mitchel and Monchi success at the clubs they’ve been at dont necessarily translate to taking on a job like LIverpool’s

Wilson 6-1

Comeback over.

In context though it is. Remember, 100 million or so fo that was in the winter window shortly after the Saudis took over. So what remains of that spending outside of those 3 Saudi funded windows is very mediocre.Probably more than people might imagine given Ashley’s reputation, but nothing that suggests there should have been a foundation to build on, because there really wasnt.

The vast majority of that falling in this season and last. Of that activity, only Willock is in the summer window before the takeover for around 30M

Kane moving to Utd or Chelsea.
Kuluevski going back to play CL at Juve.
Son playing like he’s about 50 years old.
Moura out of contract
Danjuma going back to Spain

Spurs front 3 next season gonna be spear headed by that goal machine Richarlison, Troy Parrott & Bryan Gil.

Joelinton was good money, but largely paid for with the sale of Ayoze. Almiron was similar cost to Wilock, but again largely if not completely funded by the sale of Mitrovic.

I don’t think that is the problem set. They are playing with house money now. If you figure they expected to end in the EL places this year and would try to build a platform for top 4 this summer, they are years ahead of schedule. Their next challenge is consolidating their hold on top 4, and building a side with the depth to compete in the CL group rounds while remaining in the CL spots. They would be foolish as an organization to be thinking about a title challenge in the near-term. I have not seen many signs of foolishness.

Slavering on about Newsandcastle in Champions League…with the elite…getting there by 1234 in PL…it’s the staying there matey for over 20 years…

Spurs do have a real problem. Kane and Son both nearing their waning years. Their productivity has been key. Especially Kane. If he leaves or goes into decline, that’s a big problem for a new manager.

Its a catastrophe.

I feel their pain.

Life comes at you fast, 2 hrs ago this guy was all smiles and only had a pint to drink before the game.

Well, as fun as that was to watch Spurs collapse, I think that result has to draw a line under our hopes of getting back into the CL places. Fucking Spurs

Worth remembering that as crap as Spurs are, they are 3 points ahead of LFC
