I read yesterday they have budgeted $12M to construct a compliant stand and that they have a longer term plan for a new ground in another location. Apparently, the current ground is tightly constrained in a residential area. Even if they buy few players and go straight back down the two-year revenue guarantee (including the parachute) will surely change their fortunes.
Also read Tom Lockyer was doing well enough to shout with joy at their victory. That’s good news. Hopefully, just an electrolyte imbalance or similar and nothing to do with his heart. Seems so.
When Brentford made it to the prem, they did so without having an academy because a few years before had decided that it was losing them money at a rate they couldnt afford. Now Luton come up with a stadium only the size of a single stand in Old Trafford and have to make adjustments to even be compliant in the prem.
It’s a small sample, so may not mean anything but its interesting that we’ve now had 2 clubs in quick succession make it up this far without the money or infrastructure of the more established clubs who look closer to being premier league clubs.
I am really quite curious as to how Luton has done it. They were in League 2 in 17/18, back to back promotions to get into the Championship. There will probably be some interesting profiles done over the summer
They have history. They were in the top flight in the 80’s. They have had some good sides since too - Mike Newell had a good run with them as manager at one point.
Will be an interesting read to see how they have managed it this time.
Vardy might not be able to last 90 minutes these days but he’s still their best finisher. He should’ve taken the penalty that Maddison missed against Everton as well.
