Premier League 2022/23 (Part 2)

I read yesterday they have budgeted $12M to construct a compliant stand and that they have a longer term plan for a new ground in another location. Apparently, the current ground is tightly constrained in a residential area. Even if they buy few players and go straight back down the two-year revenue guarantee (including the parachute) will surely change their fortunes.

Also read Tom Lockyer was doing well enough to shout with joy at their victory. That’s good news. Hopefully, just an electrolyte imbalance or similar and nothing to do with his heart. Seems so.

That’s about 6,000 less than Prenton Park where our women / under-23s play.

When Brentford made it to the prem, they did so without having an academy because a few years before had decided that it was losing them money at a rate they couldnt afford. Now Luton come up with a stadium only the size of a single stand in Old Trafford and have to make adjustments to even be compliant in the prem.

It’s a small sample, so may not mean anything but its interesting that we’ve now had 2 clubs in quick succession make it up this far without the money or infrastructure of the more established clubs who look closer to being premier league clubs.

This is what makes English football so amazing to behold. Stories like this. Not sure what other sport offers that. Surely, nothing in the U.S.

I am really quite curious as to how Luton has done it. They were in League 2 in 17/18, back to back promotions to get into the Championship. There will probably be some interesting profiles done over the summer

That Everton line up looks a bit mad. Nothing much to come off the bench either.

Not that I ever bet, but what are odds like on the three relegation candidates?

Everton 3/1
Leicester 1/5
Leeds 1/25

Not worth a punt really

So the books are saying Leeds has no real chance, seems sound enough

Based on that, Leeds to win and send Everton and Leicester down

They’re aware that they’re playing Spurs, right?

Agree as far as the Championship and the lower leagues are concerned. The PL though has devolved in an incredibly boring affair.

Now that there is nothing at stake for Spurs, they’ll be dominant…

They have history. They were in the top flight in the 80’s. They have had some good sides since too - Mike Newell had a good run with them as manager at one point.

Will be an interesting read to see how they have managed it this time.

This is quite the ride…

Looks like they were one of the clubs really hurt by the timing of the emergence of the Premier League

Vardy on the bench. Dean Smith has realized a bit late he can’t go 90 minutes.

Bam Bam’s hammy keeps him out at Leeds.

Need Bournemouth to make the day interesting. Solanke or Billing brace in the first half. I’m not picky.

Vardy might not be able to last 90 minutes these days but he’s still their best finisher. He should’ve taken the penalty that Maddison missed against Everton as well.
