The league reduced to 20 teams at the end of the 94/95 where 4 teams went down 2 came up all other seasons its always been 3 up and 3 down

They did try a play off for a couple of years in the last years of the first division. I remember Chelsea getting relegated due to one.

How is xG calculated? Flashscore saying Newcastleā€™s xG is 2.95.

Shots are given a fractional value based on the quality of the chanceā€¦position, distance, defensive pressure etc. an xG of 0.1 means youā€™d only expect 1 goal from every ten times someone was faced with that chance. You then just add up the values for each chance
