You know there’s something wrong when some people are praising a team nine points from the top, after spending a fortune.
Too much short term punditry in football.
New deal details being suggested.
They’re doing everything but allowing Saturday 3pms. This has the benefit of being able to show more games, but adding more variation to the rest between games for side that will only further stoke anger and piss off fans when they end up with an away game at a time and place that is impossible to get home from on public transport.
Nice football by Villa, pass by Mcginn and the cross by Cash both on point and a cute finish by Watkins.
Long way back for Brighton now, heavy touch by Veltman lets Diaby play in Watkins who cuts in and scuffs his shot which wrong foots the keeper. 2-0
Away fans are very far down the list of priorities for the PL.
Brighton falling to pieces here.
Maybe a foul by Luiz on March?
Surprised RDZ has gone with such a lightweight midfield 2 in there, getting overrun in there by Villa’s midfield 3.
3-0 brighton taking an hammering
Reminds me of their game away at Everton last season this, far too easy to play against.
It was inevitable that Brighton would crash back to earth. They’ve started this season well but Mac Allister and Caicedo are big losses.
That’s why I said West Ham are the best of the rest in the PL.
Don’t think Brighton are helped by a lack of consistency in selection, RDZ seems to tinker with the system and change 5 players every game. Understand they’ve had a number of injuries and a busier schedule this season but I’d rather my team built up momentum early and started rotating a bit further into the season.
Anyway, probably a bit early to write them off. Before today they’d played pretty well in every league game, the West Ham defeat aside.
something, something, Brighton are brilliant
Its not about writing them off, just a realistic assesssment of where they are as a club. They lost the players who were far and away their best players last season.
I mentioned that Villa should enter the equation, and they’re certainly stating their case today.
Just the start Brighton would’ve wanted, HT subs making an immediate impact.
Ball looks well in…could be offside though.
Not forgetting that match, a Brighton win would have gone a long way towards helping relegate Everton. I think that Brighton were at full strength back in that match. I’m not sure why they are prone to meltdowns like this one and I’m a bit disappointed that they usually don’t leave them for when they play against us, rather the opposite… And it’s been like that since they were promoted.
Would have been a very harsh decision to rule that out.
They were at full strength.
I seem to remember they played a ridiculously aggressive game, leaving virtually nobody back which gave a poor attacking side easy opportunities to create chances. A few on here were writing Mac Allister off based on that game iirc.
I’m not watching the match, but I’m wondering how much of this whole situation is because they are trying to build an identity, and de Zerbi is trying to figure out how best to build that?
The Mac Allister and Caicedo deals actually remind me of when we sold Coutinho, I wonder if it’ll have a similar catalytic effect for them.

I thought that De Zerbi had managed to instill that new identity (even though he’s been around only for a year or so) but I guess that it’s natural to have bumps in the road. We had our Watford and Tottenham away in early Klopp’s years… Still, it’s still ridiculous to see them concede so many goals in certain matches, like they had never played together before.
As for the money they gained from sales, I still don’t expect them to, to put it bluntly, sell a player for 120 million pounds and buy two players for 60 million pounds. I think they will go incrementally, continue looking for cheaper uncut gems and coach them to (relative) greatness.
