Wolves have cancelled their pre season tour of South Korea because the promoter hasnt followed through on its commitments. Wolves announced this by saying “We’ve not taken this decision lightly and have explored every avenue thoroughly in an attempt to not let our fans down, including numerous conversations with other local promoters.”
I’m sure the legion of Korean Wolves fans will be devastated
This boy needs our support. He is such a gifted baller and a generational talent. What he has been through by the age of 12, nobody should have go this horrendous situation.
Shocking, but somehow not surprising. That psychological pattern of needing the struggle to succeed to hold oneself together is not at all unfamiliar with elite athletes.
Aye. It’s part of why so many top athletes have a tendency to create conflict where there is none. Yelling at the media they are wrong to doubt them when no one is remotely doubting them. But by inventing that story it gives the athlete an external motivation to do the hard work that can be lacking once you’ve succeeded and made yourself financially set. It’s the sort of thing that can help sustain success over the second half of a career, but it’s very emotionally corrosive.
This was an interesting peice putting into perspective the challenge Newcastle have next season.
9 players with over 2500 minutes played, the first time anyone has done that since Wolves 5 years ago. Their preferred CB pairing played together in 35 of their 38 league games.
Essentially, their success last season was based on an unusual level of consistency of selection, something you’re unlikely to be able to do 2 years in a row, and certainly not when that second year has the added burden of European football. They will need a lot more than one more midfielder to address that
Hard to disagree here, but you still have to admire what Eddie Howe was able to achieve last season, even with the great injury luck.
I can’t see them getting out of their CL group, so expect them to drop to the Europa League. If he’s smart, Howe will target one of the domestic cups to go after and buy himself some more good grace if they do drop down the table a bit this coming season.
I reckon they’ll get pulled into a scrap with United and Spurs for that final CL spot in 5th. That’s if Spurs keep a hold of Harry the Bastard, which they may not.
I wouldn’t count on that, a lot will depend on which Pot they fall into. If they get a Pot 3 spot, I wouldn’t write them off. There are sufficient soft touches in the first two pots to allow for some hope of squeaking a 2nd place finish.
Probably the best scenario for them is to get to the knock-outs for the prestige etc, and then get knocked out (which they almost certainly would). That squad would struggle slogging through the EL while fighting to keep a top 4 spot.
Even Schär got through the season largely unscathed, which really says something about their luck. Usually, he misses out 1/3 of the season at least with all kinds of injuries.
