Problem is he does take far too much time, rightly or wrongly it’s taking time out of the game.
You could make the same argument on Arsenal last night but it was just silly how long it took.

Yesterday Tomayatsu got a yellow card for taking far less time for a throw in than Havertz did after Tomayatsu was sent off.
I said at the time that it was stupid of Tomayatsu to get the yellow card but in reflection it was the ref who was stupid. The second “yellow” was barely a foul. Not that it helped Palace in the end whose passive approach for the result it deserved.
But the refereeing has been universally abysmal!
What takes time out of the game is players feigning injury or as in the very specialized case of Brentford, a sequence of well choreographed delays on taking those set pieces they earn from feigning injury
Yeah it’s the consistency of it of course.
Though I will say this that Arsenal throw was two players.
I assume the only reason Pickford hasn’t been sent off because there wasn’t a lot of a period to waste time against Villa before being 1/2-0 down and they probably felt they had a chance against Fulham.
…he’s English and the England keeper?
And Everton are just shit and don’t have any opportunity so far to time waste.
I saw Ashley young for Everton cross the half length of the field while “looking for an opponent to throw the ball to” and quite a lot of time too.
I think that’s fair enough. The clock shouldn’t restart because one Arsenal player has thrown the ball to another to take the throw in.
Havertz got Tomiyasu booked, IMO.
The first player to touch the ball should be required to take the throw.
We’re getting to solutions that surely no one wants just to get around the implementation of a rule that doesn’t need to be in place.
Giving a team time for their preferred taker of a throw in to make his way over to where the ball went out is not really where meaingful effects of time wasting can be addressed.
Problem with that is you essentially have the throw in taker having to retrieve the ball or the ball boy having to second guess who to pass it to. It would actually slow things down.
Thing is both had ample time to take the throw in.
One thing is certain… if you are already on a yellow, no way do you then take a throw-in, or corner for the rest of the game
Or take 10 mins doing it.
Even I’ve been pissed off with Trent at times.
Not really, that’s like saying if you’re on a yellow in no way do you go into another tackle…we see it all the time? When you’re playing half the time you forget you’re even on a yellow as your minds so occupied on the football or those that don’t forget, instincts would take over as the game is played at such high pace and such intensity your mind doesn’t have time to react uninstinctively.
I said in the Chelsea post match thread that Trent will probably have more yellows for taking an age over throw ins this season. It’s not just his fault though. As an LFC fan I can probably predict who will take any given LFC throw in. Left side Robbo, right side Trent. It doesn’t matter how far upfield or
down-field the throw is, it’ll be those two. They must practice it in training. So why am I, a humble fan at the game or watching on the telly, shouting “FFS someone move for it?”. Whenever Trent dallies on the ball it’s because there’s nobody showing for him. We seem very static at throws on that side of the field.
Trent has been insanely slow on throw-ins for a long time (pet peeve of mine), he’s been getting a significant amount of yellows(comparatively) even when it was only a suggested rule. I don’t buy it that others are not showing for him, but do when anyone else throws-in. He actually sped up significantly when we got the throw-in coach, but he’s still slow.
When Trent was breaking onto the team, there was significant correlation between the time he took throwing the ball and having a below par game. If he made a couple of small mistakes early in the game, the throw ins would take an age. You could gauge how well he would play by the way he took the throws early in the game.
He’s now sped up a lot, but every now and again he reverts to being a statue. However, at the end of the season, if someone did an analysis of time taken for all throw-ins, my guess would be Trent’s yellow at Chelsea would be within normal range.
Problem easily fixed with throw ins.
1.Make sure the throw in has to happen within ten steps of the place where the ball has gone out of play.
