To replace who?

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

This game has gone off the boil.

But there’s a roar from the home fans as Joelinton is booked for persistent fouling.

Isak being a total prick there.

The list of city academy grads currently playing for other Prem teams who offer exactly what they are currently missing is pretty sobering

Palmer is the one everyone focuses on, but I’m not sure Pep would have ever allowed him the licence to do the things that has made him a success at Chelsea. But other than that you’d imagine their side would be a lot harder to play against with Porro, Lavia, and Morgan Rodgers playing. I know Charles’ move to Southampton hasn’t gone great yet, but he is at least stylistically what they are missing with Rodri out. Even Delap might have been useful to them with Halaand’s recent struggles.

Of course they have had MacAtee on the bench all season and ignored him so…

So I’ve checked into the Spurs-Barcodes game several times. Each time, I’ve been welcomed with a player receiving treatment.

They are on track for 10 mins added time. More now with this injury :see_no_evil:

Commentator noting this is Botman’s first game since last march and speaking positively about him getting through 90 mins…seemingly missing that he went down injured

How many of these players would have realistically broken into the team?

I would like to see him playing in a more organised setup to be able to properly pass judgement on him but his offensive qualities are immense, he catches my eye every time I see him play. Ironically, he seems like a player who I’d have expected Real Madrid to target - they have a previous history of taking Tottenham’s best players, as well as Spanish internationals.

In lots of cases there is the argument that young players need to go away and play regular games to bridge the gap between being an elite youth/reserve player and playing first team football at this level. What is notable about Porro, Rogers and Lavia is that all 3 were back at the elite level so quickly (half a season for the first two and one season for Lavia) that it suggests they were already ready to play had they had a manager willing to give younger players more of a chance.

Taxi for Ange.

Even with a managerial bounce they would be struggling with those injuries.

Maybe, but if his preferred approach requires complex, high risk patterns at the back and it is those players he is missing, he is asking for criticism by not simplifying his approach temporarily while having to play lesser players. I feel he is trying to have it both ways a bit. Especially as their ā€œdefensiveā€ issues have been as much about really bad decisions when in possession at the back as it has been pure defending.

Yeah, it is a bit perverse in my head, the way I think Ange should get more time but I criticize Amorim for the same failures.

Doesn’t massively bother me. I’m more confident of doing it over two games than tomorrows over one.

Hi, yes, good morning. Which one are we planning on watching?

It’s too easy to say that, especially when you ignore the context.

They have competition with WC players. Who is Lavia going to replace? How many minutes can he realistically expect?
Even if you took him back to City today, he still wouldn’t start with everyone fit.

That was a terrible post-game from Ange.

ā€œIf all things were fair and equal we would have won todayā€. When pressed on what he means by that he just repeated it x 4.

I noticed Reguilon came on today for his first Spurs appearance of the season. Where has he been since the summer. I cannot find any news of a loan or injury? Has he really just been frozen out until now?

All of them were good enough to have had some opportunities at City if they had a manager approaching things with a view to the long term. Had they had interest in doing that instead of viewing kids only as potential revenue, then when finding themselves in the midst of an injury crisis and dramatic loss of form of some older players who he is being forced to persevere with, they’d surely be navigating this period better.

City have a raised a huge amount of money using their approach so that does need to be acknowledged. But where they are today is what happens with that approach when only a small number of things go wrong with your senior players.

Not City v. West Ham. I had some hopes but my Hammers-supporting brother appears to be correct in suggesting they might be fucked.
