Premier League 2025/26 (Part 1)

Watching this brings back horrible memories of hoping Man City drop points against teams who haven’t got a hope.

They should be used to it after a decade with

Still not sure about this City team tbh. They have some tricky opponents left but on the other hand they have more days to prepare for the remaining PL fixtures.

I think that was a textbook banana skin game. On paper they will have harder games, but after having done the hard work to put themselves in a position to pass Arsenal the potential to exhale and get caught here was real. I think the chances of dropping from here on out are actually less despite them facing better sides. It wouldnt surprise me for Arsenal to drop points this weekend against Newcastle and give City even more room to maneuver

My money is on Arsenal beating Newcastle comfortably because they had a full week to prepare for this match.

I expect both teams will drop more points. I don’t expect eithier will get 85.

I find it extremely sad that Manchester City is likely set to win the league once again. Instead of fan bases cooperating some what against City, it’s like Tzarist Russia with “Tzar untouchable, Boyars bad”. We keep gloating over the fall of some Boyar slipping up, while humbly just accepting the continued rule of the Tzar.

I find it just so sad. Everyone who loves football ought to have hoped Arsenal won the league. Anyone but City. But here on this forum, most seem to favour City because “their title doesn’t matter” (sigh) and because it feels good to see the other Boyars also lose out. Just so sad and to me, absurd. It ought to be obvious to everyone who loves football that City winning is the Worst Case Scenario, but so many are fine with the Tzar’s continued reign, as long as the other Boyars are humbled.

Rant over.

I think it is more basic than that. No one knows City fans, they basically didn’t exist until a little over a decade ago (leaving aside the dedicated old school Mancunians). We all know Arsenal fans…who will be insufferably smug if they pull this off.

Unsure where to put this rumour.

Sunderland could sack French manager Regis Le Bris at the end of the season if he fails to secure European football for the club. (Talksport)

You would think they would be happy with just staying in the Premier League, just doesn’t make sense.

If they sack him, I hope they go down next season!

In fairness, the source is Talk Shite so probability of it being true is about a 0

Just saw Bournemouth’s disallowed goal. What nonsense the VAR/offside issue is becoming. Offside by the top millimetre of his shoulder.

I’ve always said offside should be judged by your foot position and nothing else. We have the technology, who cares if you are leaning slightly?

I think City winning is just hollow, it doesn’t matter because we KNOW its another prize from cheating. Its like Abba being Number One in Sweden, it just doesn’t really matter.
No one thinks its worthy, its just what happens.

Arsenal have killed football this season. They are tedious and now entitled in their manner. That Gabriel is the epitome of all that is dislikable, arrogant, cheating and whiny to boot. Arsenal winning is more difficult because once again we KNOW we could and should have been better than them.

If justice prevails we will see the City titles for what they are, tainted by cheating and ultimately worthless . If Arsenal win we will see a vindication of sterile football, where getting the corner or free kick is more the objective than playing football

Football will get progressively worse if Arsenal’s set up is successful. Doesn’t mean I don’t want Man City to be completely destroyed by sanctions.

Best outcome is that City get a points deduction that relegates them and Arsenal get an asterix.

Hope this idea we only won it because Arsenal and Man City underperformed as they we were 9pts better off at this stage last season than both.

Oh I know…
Leicester relegated because of deducted sox points. City Champions with 115 charges.

This was given offside in the Barca game last night

I am somewhat curious to see how the ‘no daylight’ rule works out in the trial being run in the Canadian Premier League.

To me it’s too far the other way.

If I’m honest keep semi automated or get rid there is no point in a day light rule as it seemed they still spent ages checking it, all you are doing is moving the what is on and off side.

Offside personally isn’t the issue for me as I can usually make a judgement call on it that is correct plus semi automated has quickened the process. You will always get examples.

I’d get rid of subjective decisions because they do take an age that or a decision can’t be made within 2 replays or 30 seconds then decision on the pitch stands. Alternatively introduce manager challenges (set up like cricket) and remove everything bar the goal line tech.

My take on it is similar to @Quicksand - another title for ManC is just another hollow victory. Arsenal winning, with their brand of shit-housery football, is not something I want to see. If it was a smaller team, a Leicester-like plucky contender, I would be more forgiving. But what makes this situation worse is that with Arsenal’s team, money and structure they could be so much more.

A Forest win would be very good for them tonight.
