I think we’ve seen the blueprint for this game, and it will be the double false nine with Grav, Mac, Szob and Jones all starting.
It’s more the double 10s. Both Jones and Dom serve in part to overcrowd the midfield.
Yep - whatever it is, I think we’ll be doing it.
And also press like strikers, connect, make runs in behind. So false #9’s or two #10’s, both is correct to say.
Or
Its just a fluid 442…
Or
Its just a fluid 442
That’s a formation and yeah, every formation is fluid.
But a 4-4-2 with Jones and Szobo is not the same as a 4-4-2 with Jota and Nunez.
Let’s not get carried away; It’s going to be an even affair both home and away. They have some really nice players, some of whom I wouldn’t mind seeing in the Liverpool squad. Still backing us to progress but I can’t see it being comfortable.
It’s more about the roles at this point.
Out of curiosity, why did they struggle so much in qualification? Had they just fathomed out that it was pointless finishing top of the league?
Obviously
But we still factor in that there are four midfielders and two forwards.
The roles as @Sithbare suggests are fluid and the inclusion of specific players changes the fluidity.
It does seem that we over complicate the terminology for the sake of it though.
From what I gather they just had a very poor start, but they improved substantially along the way.
A 4-4-2 with two false #9’s has connotations of what Arsenal do a lot, so maybe that’s why some say “it’s not two false #9’s, but two #10’s”.
This is a huge match. PSG will up their game against us. I hope we can get through this one.
Regardless of the level of opposition PSG face in France (some domestic trophies they lost or won narrowly) and their failure to win the CL so far, they’ve been in the mix for years and are certainly able to beat/knock out other top teams. Objectivelly, I think we have to be favourites, but more slight ones, not big. Last time we won the league, we went out immediately after the group stages. It’s just the CL level of competition, makes it exciting. You can play well in most games, but have a black hole of 15 minutes and you’re out. Or get knocked out by a lesser quality team or in worse form.
I think these will be in for a shock when they discover we’re not Lille, Brest, Stuttgart and all these other mid level sides they’ve been brushing aside. We’re going to take the game to them and if we get the first goal, they’ll collapse. They may very well play a better style of football for the neutrals with all the talented young players they have but who really cares about that when it’s all said and done.
IMO, these have the best chance of eliminating us, only if, they beat us out of site in the Paris game… No doubt they will be full of vim and vigour, and chase down everything they can… UNTIL…
we slowly take control of the game and play the way we can.
Still believe we win 3-1… not a bad scoreline to take back to Anfield me thinks
Mainly they just had a really tough draw. Their losses were Arsenal (a), Bayern (a) and Atletico (h) all in their first 5 games. They’d be disappointed in losing 3 of those, but they picked up 13 of the remaining 15 points.
Several of the players they were using were still quite young or new to PSG this year so you can imagine that even though he’s been there a little while this group are still on a learning curve with Enrique and improving gradually as the season goes on. But the return of Dembele makes an enormous difference to them. You could see clearly how much more he provides them when he came on at half time of the city game.
We also had a tough draw.
