When I was 15 we travelled to London to play in the premier U18 rugby 7s tournament in the country. Because of conflicts with A level mock exams none of our 6th formers could come so we had to put a team together of only 5th formers, of which I was the only one that had been playing in the first XV. In our first game we played one of the famous private schools with a reputation for rugby who at that time had 5 or 6 England U18 internationals. The game went as you’d imagine. They kicked off, recovered the ball and scored. We kicked off and they ran it straight back. That repeated for the entire first half with me being the only player on the team to touch the ball (the kick offs). Second half started and my kick off didnt go the required 10 yards so the game stopped for a free kick. Our coach laughed and said “that’s better, Limie”
That story popped into my head when I read that comment.
