I shall be nipping out of work early to watch it with my lad. He’s a good red and is off to college after this season, so I want to have as many match-watching memories with him before he leaves home. Hopefully it will be a very special season when the tallying up is done.
As for today’s game, tough assignment. We did not get the benefit of finishing top in the league stage. Now we look forward.
PSG are a bit like Man City in that they are good on the ball, at least at keeping it. I expect them to have more possession and we will need to keep a good shape. If we are on it, we should be a real threat during the times we will go at them. Ideally we will see some good finishing as I don’t think there will be loads of chances.
Their biggest threat is probably Dembele, especially if he blows hot. Pace, trickery, finishing. Very hard to stop if he catches fire.
Any win would be fantastic.
A draw would be ok.
A loss not good, but the Anfield crowd would still make it doable.
2-1 Liverpool. Salah. Van Dijk header. Dembele for them.
I was probably expecting one more midfielder to play, as PSG will likely see plenty of the ball so we will want bodies in there. Still, going with the three forwards is brave, and I like it. It’s a shame Gakpo is out, but we still have plenty there to do some damage, and there’s a lot of depth on the bench.
Almost always we do. I think in the recent game with Man City we added a fourth midfielder, playing all of MacAllister, Gravenberch, Jones and Szoboszlai. I thought we might do a similar thing away to PSG.
Edit: granted, Szoboszlai played an advanced role, but I still class him as a midfielder.
