Racism and all the bad -isms

Good grief, how could you possibly know that on an internet forum? Transgender people don’t like football or something?

Not at all. Nobody’s ever stated that they are on this forum unless I’m wrong.

Not sure how germane it would be in earnest discussions of why Everton won’t get relegated, FSG isn’t spending enough, and our aging midfield. Why would you expect someone to put it front and center, any more than sexual orientation or race, for example? We know little bits about some posters, but we don’t really know who they are.

Why does that matter?
You had your thinly veiled jibe at me because I defended mental health/disability rights, asking if I had skin the game. The normal response from those who don’t really understand the plight of those in minority groups. Stigmatised groups.

Do what if anyone else has relatives or friends that are trans? Or if a poster is trans themselves?
Does that change the conversation?

You really want the kid gloves off?

Oh, fuck me. I’ll go first, in the interest of social progress. So fuckin’ embarrassing. I was born Everton. I’m only trans-Liverpool. Don’t kick me off! Please!! Please!!!

Given that the conversation in this thread can get “heated” I would expect anybody who’s ACTUALLY affected by it to contribute. If not, no worries. If anybody is, they can expect to be vicariously offended by other people.

I just think you should stop claiming something is a ‘biological fact’ when you haven’t got a fucking clue what you are talking about.

And if anybody disagrees with the views of certain people, on any subject, they can expect to be abused and bullied.

We know you used to cut lawns.

I suspect that most people who are trans or have a family member who is trans will keep quiet about it knowing the amount of online vitriol they are likely to be exposed to.

It’s a bit like the reticence that people have about discussing mental health issues. Anyone who has had to disclose them will also tell you that they have had any such disclosures weaponised against them. It is slightly more acceptable to admit to mild depression now but have you seen anyone online admitting to schizophrenia, for example?

This is a football forum and there is no real reason for anyone to disclose their gender identity or sexuality if they don’t want to. At the same time I would like people to know that they are welcome as a Liverpool fan regardless of their race, religion, gender, age, sexuality or any other categorisation. If anyone wants to disclose that or keep their privacy it’s their own decision - they are still a fan.

What about murderers, rapists and paedophiles? Are they welcome categories too?

well, let’s be perfectly clear about something…

I’m the village idiot

There is a basic principle that whatever goes on between consenting adults is not anyone else’s business. The examples that you have given involve a non-consenting individual.

and I don’t think that situation is at the heart of the discussion here.

The contention, is that a person who was physically born with XY chromosome and changes to XX wants to participate in sports with other XX.

Apparently there’s something called the Klinefelter Syndrome where a male is born with an extra X chromosome which could be at the core of this discussion… interesting reading.

There are around half a dozen similar outlier conditions affecting the XY chromosomes. Usually these express themselves as a particular condition but sometimes they go completely undetected until there is cause to check for something unrelated.

Of course this ignores any prenatal environmental factors, particularly exposure to testosterone which will give an athletic advantage to both men and women. There is a whole area of research in 2:4 digit ratio which can be used as a proxy for this. I don’t think it provides anything useful diagnostically but it would indicate that elite athletes are just that extra bit male.

This doesn’t affect the sports bodies, of course, but it does mean that they have to be careful how they define restricted category events.

I try to deflate the situation and am told I don’t have a fucking clue. By you. I tried. I tried…….

My common point when people talk about inclusion for all.

Yes it does. I’ve been told on here that my views are “Really fucking offensive” As nobody has ever said they’re trans, I wonder whom I’m offending? As I said, vicarious offence. Common from a certain mindset.
