Rhys WILLIAMS: 2021/22

Yep, just as I thought.

The fact Robertson is so low down despite being the best defender on the pitch is another oddity.

He done well and surprised me, I thought we would concede 3 or 4, shame he is so slow.

20 years old and dealt with Chris Wood more easily than 80% of premier league defenders.

Decent performance from the kid again.

That’s what I’m seeing.

Some poor moments and some good ones, his pace is the biggest worry.

Agreed, pace is his only downfall and some ability. Rest all come with being a inexperienced young centre back in the Premier League

Loan him or sell him.

I think it’s very important that we get on the kids back before the biggest game of the season in which he’s certain to start.

Imagine him having VVD next to him each game

We really don’t have to sell him, securing a good loan move for him next season would be the best solution.

Exactly.

The players who have come in and have been heavily relied on by this club over the last 8-10 months have done extremely well.

They are being asked to do a job they don’t really have the expected skill level for.

The fact that we have snuck into 4th place at the 11th hour is a testament to them and the work they’ve done.

They’ve been written off time and time again but… here we are.

I’ve not seen anyone write them off.

This sort of hyperbole plagues this forum.

I’ve seen people say they aren’t good enough for us, which is fair… They either aren’t ready yet or just slightly below the level… That’s not a slight, that’s just reality. I think they’ve done excellent considering the circumstances but would I want better than Phillips and Williams next season to go for the league and CL double? Most certainly.

Agree with this, if they are still here they can play domestic cup games.

Needs a loan move.

Personally bar his speed I think he is more intelligent than I’ve given him credit for.

Some of the stuff he does is far more controlled than Phillips.

Rhys had a breakthrough season. It exposed his weaknesses as well as illustrated his potentials. The more he plays, the better he will get. So a loan deal for next season is justified.

I doubt he’d have been running any faster even if he had been fully fit! Joking aside, this lad will go to sleep tonight, look back at the season he started when he was still a teenager and hopefully take pride from playing the best he could and take it from there. He made errors but proved himself in the end, that horror show in FA Cup at Old Trafford could have spelled the end for a lot of young players. Luckily, Klopp was able to take him out of the firing line and steel him for the end of the season and he delivered. Hopefully he can carve out a decent career for himself.

Had a tough year. Learnt a hell of a lot than he would on loan at league 2 level. Hopefully he can get a championship loan next season and we can evaluate him after. Will have a good career once he fills out and matures defensively

Only those who have played alongside this kid knows how tough he is. Baby Monster. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Too much focus on his limitations and not enough on his strengths - he’s really good on the ball and in the air. His positioning in the box is good. Needs to work on reading the long ball over his head, but he’s 20.

He’ll have plenty of suitors in the summer for a loan, clubs like Norwich or Bournemouth could do a lot worse.

Doesn’t look good enough for a first team place with us, but he can really really hold his head high after this season. Did a job for the team that got us to third - passed a couple more touted youngsters to do so- and proved at just 20 he definitely has the quality to have a solid, long career in the game.
