Rhys WILLIAMS: 2021/22

Both him and Nat are not Liverpool standard.

You can say that about Nat but not Rhys who’s still a young player.
We’ll see for Rhys I have hope.

Except that the two of them got us through to a third-placed finish and Champions League qualification.

The team did. The rest of the side offered more help and protection and guidance to the CBs than they ever would to say VvD and Gomez. But both played far better than we ever had any rights to hope they could.

Except our strikers who where terribly out of form for most of it. We definitely need to recuperate our barn door from Melwood.

Defensively our forwards did more work last season than ever before. There were games Salah was set up almost like a traditional winger or even a wing back with Trent as another CB.

They probably did. But they also missed more chances than ever before.

That was because we had Gini. I do remember as I said that tactic was not doing any favors to Trent. We stopped it when Fabs got back into midfield.
Salah kept forgetting to stay on his man as well.
It’s not a good example though as in many matches we had many golscoring chances and definitely showed we couldn’t hit the Melwood barn door. You could see it affected the confidence of the defense and eventually the whole team. It became embarrassing.

Oh wow :flushed:

It’s as if we could have finished third with nine players.

I think what really helped was our front players started scoring goals again.

Receiving six goals in the ten last games suggests otherwise. Our defence was sound. But of course we needed the forwards to find their scoring boots again in order to win these games.

He’d do alright for Wales, I’d say.

Do you mean Neco Williams, not Rhys?

While that’s true, I think it does depend on the way the manager/the club view the full back positions.

Ours aren’t defensive positions primarily.

Seeing Rhys going for the byline is something I have to see, now! :joy:

Nah, I’m just assuming his name means he’ll be eligible for Wales sooner than later. Neco’s already stuck with us, regardless of the FA and waistcoat man’s flirtations.

Very surprised that he hasn’t been sent out on loan yet.

One of him, Phillips, or Davies was always likely to stay. We’re likely sounding out some moves for him in the event a move for Phillips is not finalized.

Agreed, we would have kept a fifth CB and in the circumstances I feel Nat might leave even this late in the window.

I think that’s what @Limiescouse is saying. We’re probably prioritising retaining Williams over Phillips, just because he’s younger and could benefit more from being near a somewhat decent coaching team.
