He needs to just ‘Toey’ a few shots as hard as he can…
Worked for me at U13 level…!
Yeah he should have been just hitting it on that rebound from Gini, the goalie is hardly up, anything over waist height he scores.
Still he looked lively tonight, I thought he was better than Mane and Salah who seemed to have lost their first touch.
That second chance is nowhere near as terrible as the first in my opinion. He was never good at it, simple as that. Not even in seasons with 27 goals, not now with barely 10, not in the future. Sure, with better form, chances increases that he manages to finish some of those better than he is at the moment. But to me, his strengths and weaknesses were always as clear as day.
Wrote this post back in October 20…
Love the guy to bits for what he has helped us achieve…
Really concerned he has not clicked into form over the past months though.
This has led me to believe that Bobby needs fans more than anyone else to bring out the best in him…!
To me he is our showman, our Freddy Mercury performing on stage at the live aid concert…
He needs the adrenaline drip of Si Senor booming out from 50,000 voices into his eardrums…
Alas, until the fans are back into the stadiums, I would hold no protest if he was taken out of the spotlight until such times return
Firmino has been crap for over a year. Worse, he is approaching 30 - his time is short, especially for Klopp-style football.
It is very very very hard to find a Firmino replacement. It is, however, not difficult to find a quality goal-scoring CF without blinking your eyes.
Long-term solution: bench Firmino and learn to play with a true central forward.
Or Jota with Minamino as his understudy?
Time to give him a rest and start Jota.
Any idea why Bobby wasn’t in the squad last night???
Minor knee issue.
Missed the last 3 games which is now merged with this little break. Let’s see if he looks a bit physically and mentally fresher when we return.
Yeah, I was thinking about this too. If Bobby can resurrect some of his old wizardry and Jota, Salah and Mane can stay untainted, we can make something out of this wretched season.
Back in full training.
It must have been some pretty serious injury because he also missed the last two games. I thought he was back to training.
Didn’t see the match unfortunately, but it looks like Bobby was moved back into midfield when Jota came on. What do people think about him in that role? He’s always been good a harrying the opposition and winning the ball back and, of course, his link up play is excellent. Could he be part of a midfield three?
Frankly, the only difference I noticed is that he didn’t get into the box.
He was dropping very deep even before Jota came on. In fact when Jota came on he was seen further forward. Looked like he and Jota were swapping over to me. Jota was much better in this role Mainly because he actually creates stuff and refrains from dropping too deep.
His movement in the box was awful last night, so bad I think he didn’t want the ball to come to him.
2 or 3 times he found himself in plenty of space in the box and instead of holding the position he continued his run to hide behind a defender so our wide players Trent/Robbo/Nat couldn’t find him. He doesn’t seem to appreciate the fact that continuing to run as close to the goal as possible isn’t always the best option.
He done some good stuff deeper but I watching him trying to get on the end of stuff was a good example of why we’ve been struggling to score so often recently. Jota of course was the total opposite and makes goalscoring look incredibly simple.
I don’t want to scapegoat him but… It’s been like this for a while, hasn’t it? That chance in the first half when Partey (I think) headed ball into Mane’s path, Firmino was so late to the rebound that it got me worrying - I immediately thought about how Jota (or even Keita and Jones) would have been much quicker to anticipate it and sprint forward to offer support to Mane and Salah. Granted, his starting position is usually deeper than Mane’s and Salah’s but it’s not like he hasn’t scored from tap-ins before.
When Jota came on I thought we looked really good as a team. Not sure how much of that was down to Arsenal losing the plot. We looked really solid but also offered a real threat going forward.
Salah seemed to spring into life as well.
There’s clearly something that’s not right. I’m struggling to put my finger on it to be honest but it also impacts Salah and Mane. They all become tentative and unsure. There were examples of that from Salah in the first half. We also become too tight and compressed trying to play slowly through gaps that don’t exist.
There was a video posted the other day of Firmibo vs Arsenal. The contrast between then and now between all 3 front players was harrowing
