Roberto FIRMINO: 2020/21

For me he still is, though his overall form dropped. But for me, it’s more visible than people give him credit for. It’s small things, simple, but sometimes those in that area of the pitch (back to goal, crowrded areas, etc.) are most difficult.

He’s not good at dropping deep either. If he took fewer touches and linked up quicker he could do better where he’s best between the lines.

I agree there’s a point when he drops too deep, and sometimes it’s not only his fault, but if the CM’s are not performing well enough and we don’t progress the ball forward well enough. But some basic things he’s still doing well enough in my opinion. More inconstistently, not always as accurate and prone to losing possession too easily at times? Yeah. But with some things I’m still more than fine how he’s doing them.

Which are?
I only see glimses where he’s on the ball, one fantastic thing per match the rest is pretty poor at the moment. His controll of the ball is up there it’s what comes after that dissappoints.

I don’t know but I would like to see a right-footed goalscoring machine playing for us.

Linking midfield and attack, pressing. To me it’s nothing new that his control or consistency or accurate passes isn’t quite the best, it was obvious even in his glorious 27 goals seasons. Nothing new there. Yeah, his form has dropped, but I’m not getting dragged into this “he’s doing 1 good thing per game” idea. It’s okay if you see it that way.

That is or was Mane up to this season.

:slightly_smiling_face:

We’ll see what kind of player we get to “replace” Origi. I don’t know what will even be possible if we don’t make top 4 (and it’s really not the best year/second summer in a row to sell ideally).

As it stands someone with a head of steel and mega agression attacking the ball would do nicely.

His pressing has definitely dropped off. As for the rest he takes too much time, many touches and his passes are too feable in general. You can see he can do better so really it is a case of him just getting it right once a match however he could controll that.

Just read an interesting stat…
Goals scored, Firmino is only one behind Sadio…
Assists, Firmino is two ahead of Sadio…

He was here before Mane.

Not surprising as Mane is quietly having a stinker of a season too.

Thing is Salah still sits 3 clear at the top of the scoring charts, as I said elsewhere our first half of the season was good enough to leave us top with 4 points.

It’s gone off a cliff since then.

God I hope he takes confidence from that even with it being taken off him (correctly) as an own goal. Had the chances should have had at least 2 and could easily have had 3 or 4.

He looked a lot more lively tonight to be fair

Still can’t score. :joy:

That goal would’ve ended out of play. :joy:

But nice action for the goal, two double passes, nice preparation for the shot. Reminded me a bit of the goal against PSG at home.

For all the talk of him being a false 9 and dropping too deep, he’s getting loads of chances. His finishing is just incredibly bad.

Not to mention the large amount of gilt edge chances where he refuses to shoot.
