Roberto FIRMINO: 2021/22

The best defensive forward in the world and the most underrated.

Last years shit Bobby is fading from the memory. I always seemed to feel that his game suffered the most from no fans.

Bobby doing his shit exactly in that zone where United have holes, between the lines.

Iā€™m so sad he didnā€™t play against Barca in those two games. :pensive:

Itā€™s really amazing, even after over six seasons, he is our best kept secret.

Klopp on Firmino:

ā€œMo gets a lot of attention and rightly so but Firmino was outstanding. For people with football knowledge, people will write books about how he interprets the false 9. We donā€™t say he invented it but it looks like that at times. It was insane.ā€

Klopp sees football and players, what they bring in, the tactics way differently than we do.

Yeah I was very critical last year but the extended rest heā€™s had seems to have brought the old Bobby back. Salah may have got all the goals and plaudits but they were made on Bobbyā€™s movement. He was back to his best yesterday.

He said something once in an embargoā€¦

There was a league game a few years ago, when the Bundesliga had their winter break.

He had a dozen coaches from Germany attend a game live at Anfield, which we won, donā€™t know who it was against. A normal win without anything MOTD-special.

Klopp said that he met all of them post-game and said that everyoneā€™s main opinion was ā€œwow, Bobby, what a playerā€.

Always said that Bobby should be able to score around or a little bit more than 15 goals per season in all competitions in this side. Around 10+ in the league and another 5+ in other comps.

But heā€™s still at around 1 in 3 in total since heā€™s here and a goal involvement of 1 in 2.

And thatā€™s with all the other things he brings to our side, being a mix of a midfielder and forward.

Sure, there were better periods and less good periods. But overall, what else can we ask for.

Unusual and special type of player.

I think Sunday shows how Bobby canā€™t ever be measured by goalsā€¦ He had a hand in pretty much all 5 yet no assist or goal. Really canā€™t say enough how good he was.

Taking it to more details, Iā€™d say the best 3 connectors are; Messi, Benzema and Firmino.

Messi is in the league of itā€™s own when it comes to linking up in the final third, we donā€™t have to say no more. Iā€™d say Benzema is a better link up player than Bobby, his technique is clear as day, simply better in more technical aspects. But Bobby is right up there overall, arguably the best. His defending/pressing is better than Benzemaā€™s. Bobby can drop even deeper, but then Benzema is a better finisher. All of them are different, but do more or less the same things for their teams.

And yeah, Cesc must know the difficulty of the role and certainly appreciates someone like Bobby. I also love the little ā€œbromanceā€ (or footballing respect) that was always there between Bobby and Griezmann. Itā€™s like Griezmann always appreciated Kloppā€™s Liverpool from afar. I remember him reacting to goals or skills from Sturridge, Bobby, etc. Ballers!

Am I the only one to observe how his form has gone from being in a slump during the whole period without people around the grounds, to absolute top with them back again?

The more atmosphere and pressure there is, the more heā€™ll deliver! :+1:t2:

Hope that @Alright_Now comes back soon. Bobby will be unplayable then.

Think he also profited from having little breaks here and there. Looks both physically lean(er) and mentally fresh(er). Plus, there was Jota ready to replace him (in a different way, more with runs/goals rather than Bobbyā€™s link up, which we lacked in a few games where Jota wasnā€™t great). Plus, there are new contract talks mostly for other players. Plus, him having less than two years on his deal. All that is motivation to get back to the things he does best.

Yeah this plays a role obviously. But I think that the Covid period must have weighed on his mind. Maybe also the sparation from loved ones in Brazil. And heā€™s a show animal. Without people to watch him, he looked like he didnā€™t find sense in all this. Even his few goal celebrations (he didnā€™t score many) were lifeless and a bit sad.

Anyway, whatever the reasons, he looked the shadow of his former self during that whole sad period. Now heā€™s reborn from his ashes, like the Phoenix! :+1:t2:

100% I stand by my criticisms of him last season, if he had continued that form into this season Iā€™d be saying sell him his legs have gone. Thank Fowler itā€™s not the case and the real Bobby is back. He really does look like the guy from 2 years ago which made everything tick.

Heā€™d been in a slump for some time imo long before the shut doors, a few seasons. Iā€™ve been waiting a long time for this ā€˜revivalā€™ and that makes it soo much more soo much better!
