Ronald Araujo (CB) Barca (Loan)

Oh wow, so maybe nothing to do with the fee then :grimacing:

You mean non HG, I think. You could fill your squad with homegrown players but can only have a maximum of 17 who are not.

Yes you’re right I meant non HG. Thanks.

It’s an easy mistake to make. Right guys?

The only losing scenario is that he isnt able to turn his form around, performs poorly for us and costs us points. Or worse, bad form makes us inclined to push into action one or both of the young CBs more than we’d want hampering their development.

There was a lot more certainty and reliability in what you’d be getting with Tomori and Chalaboah than there is with this guy. But his best level so far above what either of those guys are capable of. I think it was probably only 2 years ago I was suggesting we spend decent money to go and rescue him from Barca.

There is a risk in this move that we cannot ignore, but it does tick a lot of boxes and has big upside.

There you go again.
He’s not rush of the blood type. Not in recent years.

And he’s not mental like you claimed earlier…

What he is, is a front foot defender coming into a team that is not designed to play an incredibly high line like Hansi Flick does.

Don’t mind this at all, certainly better than spending Ā£60m on Konsa.

Pros:
Tall, good in air, quick, aggressive, experienced, leadership, can play CB or RB, option to buy, uruguayan

Cons:
Injury prone, high wages (not a massive issue) & discipline

Pros outweigh the cons.

He’ll get a lot more love from our fans. Except Walshy.

I think Liverpool fans really love that competitor mentality. for sure.

I think that’s a bit of an unfair comparison.

We have our defensive leader in Van Dijk. Two outstanding young defenders both on their way back from injury. Another pair of great prospects a rung below, and a good but injury prone defender who will leave in a year. And I believe there is an agreement already in place to bring back Quansah next summer.

We’re set at centre back, but we just need someone to get us through this year.

Barcelona has been a basket case of a club in terms of personnel over the last 10 years. He isnt a true academy player, but he came into the first team as a teenager after having spent a year in the reserves, and did at a time when they were in full blown financial crisis mode. They were in desperate need to raise money with sales and trim wages, and he was one a raft of young players whose ability to step up and perform at that level gave Barca the room they needed. However, Barca only ever used that room to dig themselves a bigger hole so it took only a couple of years for Araujo to himself become the high priced established player the fans looked to as an asset to sell to get a big salary off their books. They looked to players like him as liabilities who were hurting the club as their continued presence prevented them going out and buying a shiny new toy. It has been a toxic situation for a player to be in. His form suffered and that and a succession of injuries really ramped up that toxicity that for a couple of years people have been looking at the situation and hoping for his sake that he found a way out of it.

Lovren floundered when Rodgers expected him to lead the backline. He was fine once he had Van Dijk next to him.

Brother we all know if Man Utd had signed him you’d be curled up in the fetal position because they brought in the new Baresi for free!

He said goodbye to his teammates already

Their supporters are pretty unforgiving for that one rash tackle that put them out of the CL but had it happened when he is playing for us we would cheer that tackle to the rafters and he would be a hero regardless, that’s the height of fickleness.

Hasta luego you dummies!

If he wants a whole new start he could just go with Federico da Silva. That’s a totally different guy than Ronald Araujo.

We will now have two giants at CH and Alli won’t need to bust his hamstring again with these two in front of him.
