Ronald Araujo (CB) Barca (Loan)

Dunno if it deserves its own thread as it seems pretty much done, but this will keep the unreliable rumours thread free for the unreliable rumours :joy:

Loan deal seems agreed. Some Spanish suggesting an option (not obligation) to buy is included

Also @Walshy07 hows that for quickly done deals

Turns out its a lot quicker without 100 odd million involved

Checks injury history…

… ah, the Uruguayan Joe Gomez.

As I said in the other thread, I think this looks a good signing and ticks a lot of those boxes many of us have been discussing.

Experienced, big, physical player who can cover two positions and provide the younger players with some breathing space if they need it. If they step up and claim the starting spot as their own, then either he moves on next season or can still get game time at full back as well as rotation at CB.

As it’s a loan deal it also doesn’t tie up too much cash immediately, and if there is an option to buy we’re able to make it permanent next summer (should we and the player wish to) when there is probably going to be a lot more cash available.

A bit rash and not great on the ball but he is quick, strong and combative. Also pretty good in the air.

I wonder how he will pair with Van Dijk, or fit with the young ones.

Not bad tbh, for a loan.

There is an excellent cb in him. He has also lost his way a bit. Troubles with injury and mental health. If Iraola can get the best out of him then this is excellent business. If not then as a loan there is little to no financial damage done.

Were a fucking joke of a club

I like it, this could go really really well or very badly. :upside_down_face:

Depends how much of his £200k a week salary we’re covering and how fit he can stay I guess.

The captain of Barcelona is now counted as a no one?

Bloody hell mate, do you ever allow yourself to enjoy something?

Araujo?

Nah, he´s a decent player.

My only doubts would be how he would fit with Van Dijk (just language) and with the youngsters as he´s not the calmest of head. But he is a decent player and I think a good loan move while we are short on cover and probably funds.

He’s a well known player and captain at Barca.

If you think he’s a no one then that’s on you not him.

I think he’s averaging around 35 games a season over the last 6 years, with the highest being 43, so hopefully that’s a good sign that he will be available frequently when we want/ need him to be.

I thought he was a no one? Now you’re an expert on his injury history?

Loan makes sense given we have decent young CBs coming back from injury or very young ones. Decent business.

Better than the last CB crisis we had.

Meant more that his level had dropped. Has been twice in the la liga team of the season (21-2 and 23-4) and is currently barca captain, but also took a sabbatical owing to social media fans and the impact of their deranged bullshit. Also regular injuries can take a toll.

If Iraola and the change of scenery can get him out of his head and back to playing with the confidence he had then we’ve done some excellent business here.

Wait, he´s not injured right now is he??

Happy with that. Good leader id presume.

Hopefully has some English to help him settle.

Takes the pressure off our younger lads and a bit of legs to help Virgil out.

Was a top CB a few years ago. Probably still is on his day, praying we get some luck and keep him fit.

Hopefully Barca paying most of that big wage !
