I’m very impressed by Australia and Canada.

That would just show how dipshit crazy the UK financial system is wouldn’t it?

The boundaries would clearly be the NATO countries. But yeah, Moldova might be in danger too.

I’ve had my say: pacific resistance, with all available means. By everyone and in all countries, Russia included. Easier said than done for sure, but that would be the way for me. Fighting with arms will only lead to more needless suffering, and a country destroyed to the core.

Now, what do you suggest then? Go full in, hammer them with all the might of NATO’s armies, and risking a nuclear exchange? Any military expert would tell you that this would be a folly of the highest order. What else?

Exactly. This kind of approach could be far more rewarding than a going to war with them. :+1:t2:

The video posted by Livvy of those refugees at the train is heartbreaking. So the world stands by while aggression goes unabated? If that happened here I would kiss my wife and kids, take up arms and fight and probably die at some point. That is literally the choice left in the hands of Ukrainians now. Fight, or be run over and become no more than cattle. Pacifism has its place, we all hope to live in a world where we need not take up arms but sadly we don’t and the things we take for granted sometimes need to be fought for. Remember, the peace that you’ve had in Europe all this time was fought for and died for against a man very much like what Putin is seeming to become for whatever reason. The freedom of my life was fought for in my country as well. Might is not right but neither can we as good people stand by and watch and say we cannot intervene for the sake of fear. That is exactly what the ilk of Putin count on. These people need help.

I have no power over this, only an opinion. It’s easy for me to comment from so far away and I understand the nervousness surrounding confronting Russia, I truly do and perhaps if I were European I too would think differently but as a person, as a father this cannot be allowed, surely, when help can be given. Nobody wants an escalation and I am not expecting NATO troops on the ground but for me, as the question is directed to me, a no fly zone could be enforced. With much Sabre rattling and rhetoric, definitely, but it is a means where help could be given.

As for ex Military, one of the former commanders or deputy commanders of NATO Europe (British guy, can’t think of his name) was on the Beeb a few days ago bemoaning the lack of will in NATO to implement such measures so no, not all military experts think it’s complete folly

Gandhi is a great example.

But it shows both sides of the coin for that approach. Ghandi failed to realise that his approach only worked if the government has morals or is somewhat humane. His moral absolutism during WW2 gets dusted under the carpet but was undoubtedly wrong in the face of an enemy or government that has no qualms about wiping people off the face of the map.

Ghandi advocated that Britain let Hitler win the war. That he was not a bad. Instead show passive resistance will prevent bloodshed. He said that if he was a Jew in Germany he would challenge the Germans to shoot him. In a misguided belief that Might somehow cause hitler to bend the knee.

Sure at the time concentration camps were not known but even afterwards he maintained an odd perspective.

“Hitler killed five million Jews. It is the greatest crime of our time. But the Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher’s knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs. As it is, they succumbed anyway in their millions.”

The resistance shown in India to British rule is one of humanities greatest achievements. But I don’t think it works when a mad man is in charge.

The state of Putins mind (someone who uses nukes as thinly veiled threats). I don’t think we can lay down our arms. He will not interpret that as a strength but a weakness and rub his hands in glee.
