Russian War Crimes (Part 1)

Indeed, and as you say, for very good reason considering Russia’s long range fires and artillery…
Already , alpha strike was totally devastating, with concentrated troops, well…

Most people don’t understand what a mess combat logistics can be, and how quickly. A 50km supply line through recently taken territory is several orders of magnitude more challenging than a 5km supply line. Any hope the Ukrainians have lies in slowing the Russian advance, seeing Russian internal resistance/concerns come forward and interact with international pressure to produce a change in Russian war aims. Delay is the only possible victory, so keeping forces in being in front of the critical points makes a lot more sense than holding territory for the sake of holding territory.

I am going to try to take a break from this sad event. Going to clean my mind and go over to a friend and talk about some non-war stuff. Will be back later tonight (or I don’t know when, some times I pop in before I had intended) to post updates. But I need to take care of myself a bit.
Feel free to add some of those twitter sources I have posted, and read through their timelines yourselves. OSINT is foggy when there is active hostilities, but you get better and more in depth info from those sources than any media organisation. So I recommend using my sources. You need to filter though. I did not post everything I read, some claims were outlandish, some claims are proven inaccurate later on etc. But most is good stuff. Be wary of the most opinionated ones though. The best ones just report.

My mental image was that it’s in a more central location.

What a rotten luck Ukraine got. Almost the entire country is a flat-land with little natural obstacles. :man_facepalming:

Also one of the biggest self goals Ukraine could have done is blow up bridges/roads etc etc. Had they done that, They would have been literally trapped and bombarded endlessly

The only real obstacle they have is the Pripet Marshes, which make invasion from most of the Belarus frontier difficult, but they end to the west of Kiev. Not particularly useful, because the Belarussian role was inevitably to be a pinning force anyway

Explains it ok. Maybe be disgusted with Russia and them alone.

Have a rest mate , you deserve it. And thanks again for keeping us all better informed than we would otherwise be.

Quite heartening to see that there appears to be stiff resistance and that the Ukrainians have even staged successful counter attacks.

I think we are right not to send soldiers into Ukraine right now. I do wish we had established a no-fly zone over at least the Western areas of the country though.

Russia wouldn’t have recognized any no-fly zone. So, either it would have been meaningless or there would have been engagements between NATO and Russia.

Terrible situation. I hope these pictures of marches in Russian cities are genuine.

Politically, that would have been very difficult. It would not have been possible to get that through the UN, and I am not sure NATO has the stomach for that considering some of the EU members have been more concerned about carve-outs from the sanctions regime to minimize the impact on themselves.

Canadian observers in Moscow are confirming they are. Real courage on the part of ordinary Russians.
