Deutsche Bahn enables refugees with a Ukrainian passport or identity card to use all long-distance trains from Poland in the direction of Germany to Berlin free of charge. This applies from this Sunday. This is intended to make it easier for refugees to continue their journey from the border. DB is in close contact with the authorities and our partner railways in the neighboring countries of Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria.
Up to 6 Eurocity long-distance trains run daily from Poland to Germany, all via the Frankfurt/Oder border crossing. The long-distance trains have their starting points in Warsaw, Gdansk, Przemysl (border to Ukraine)/Krakow, Vienna/Wroclaw.

Olaf Scholz just announced €100,000,000,000 special budget for the Bundeswehr this year at a special session in the German Bundestag. This is a turning point that really leaves me speechless.
This is extremely worrying!
Key policy points from Scholz:
- over 2%/GDP for defence
- €100bn special fund for defence
- two new LNG terminals to break free from Russian gas.
- supplementary coal and gas reserves
- accelerated renewables roll-out
- new Bundeswehr deployments in NATO eastern flank states

However, there has been a sea-change here in America. Whereas you had some on the right admiring Putin, now there is almost universal condemnation of what he has done. Now is the time for unity.

One long term positive of this is the likely investment in renewable clean energy to gain energy independence from Russia, but what a terrible price to pay for it.

I haven’t heard what was said but I feel it’s invalueable. Total support for at least getting them back when the time comes etc.
It is evident that if this war drags on many from the centre and west of Europe will go to fight mainly for Ukraine they will need support from their countries at some point. Making contingincies and voicing that support seems essential to me. Just keeping some sort of track of them useful, better to support them than condemn them. Condemnation won’t stop them but with increase the chances of them forming alternative visions in the long run.
So we send untrained and unintegrated, battle naïve people to go to their deaths or be captured and used as propaganda, while the state hangs back and has no intention to engage… sounds like a plan!
