Yes indeed, which is why the criterion I mentioned was ‘international community’. However it is not only if Russia is defeated, it is if they wish to partake in the international community, the membership for which is generally the observance of international norms and UN resolutions. There is evidently some way to go for Russia in this.
damn…
Likely a similar operation to the one to the west - that is a swampy river delta, difficult to get heavy equipment in, poor sight lines. Easy to slip across in small watercraft, probe defences, and if they are light ‘occupy’ until the Russians come in force to kick you out. Drop some 155mms on them while you skedaddle.
exactly. a town of 13,000 pre-war wouldn’t be hard to infiltrate.
Automatic gunshots in a war, really, who expected that …
this looks like a video game. wow
The point is that it is on the other side of the river and for there to be gunshots, Ukrainians may have crossed the river as reported by some of these sources (unless the Russians are shooting at nothing). That’s the point. It is a developing situation and has been for some time.
I suppose the answer to this is both, is it the Russians are totally shit warriors or the Ukrainians absolute grit. But I just cannot [still] believe how embarrassing this is getting for Putin. Its not yet ranked in the list of greatest military defeats, because its still ongoing, but a candidate for greatest military blunder of all time in the making here.
Absolutely a candidate for the worst military miscalculation in modern history.
I actually carry a degree of sympathy for the rational (not blood thirsty)/mobilised Russian soldier. They are being forced into a war of active aggression, sent in their thousands as fodder similar to WWI. Where it was deemed numbers would overpower the enemy.
Just over a 100 years later, Russia are still implementing the same tactics, with the only surprise being they don’t have a Calvary division.
It is clear Russia completely over estimate or under planned for this war. Having annexed Crimea in 2014, and most likely having this invasion in mind it is shocking that they have not trained more troops in advance, stockpiled munition/armour and additionally had a strategy.
I think the whole world should count themselves blessed that the Russian attempt to conquer Ukraine was so badly orchestrated and that the soft assistance of NATO was so well implemented by the Ukraine forces.
I think the winter months will be a major test to both armies. Russia will most likely hope it buys them some time to regroup, whilst Ukraine will most likely want to restrict supply lines and starve/freeze the frontline.
Some people may question me on this, but I hold a-lot of respect for the majority of both armies in-terms of individual human beings.
I can not even imagine how I would cope in their situations.
I would like to believe that I would have the balls to step out of my trench and walk across no mans land for the freedom of my country/the world whilst under constant fire but if I am being honest I would take the Blackadder approach.
Very interesting video and clears up some questions.
And finally the Bakhmut front
Interesting clip
