Russian War Crimes (Part 2)

Concerning Germany, I have noticed such criticism isn’t wanted here (nor posted by anyone else despite the heavy dose of it in the twitter sphere), either of Germany or France and that people get stupidly defensive. But Olaf Scholz has said something extremely unimpressive and very stupid today which many of the accounts I follow are mocking.

It should be highlighted by someone and then that person probably has to be me.

Concerning the fighters downed I have talked about earlier and massively inflated numbers in Ukrainian propaganda, Oryx supports my view:

Some photos of earlier destroyed bridgeheads some may find fascinating:

I do wonder whether part of the reason for Germany’s reluctance to do more, at least militarily, is that it would expose how badly funded/maintained a lot of their military assets are; which could be slightly embarrassing? France and Germany both still show a frustrating reluctance to utterly condemn and rebuke Putin though.

In order to understand this context better, you should know that this is a small part of his speech at the Catholic Church Congress. He spoke to catholic church members.

This is the Germany in NATO official twitter account proudly parroting it, Livvy. Context noted, criticism stands and it is indefensibly stupid. That twitter GermanyAT NATO re-tweets it is a problem. In no world is there anything mitigating here, when this account, retweets it and trumpets it to the world:

I don’t get why you are defending this. It is a giant own goal and another PR problem. Germany doesn’t seem to understand how much political capital they have lost since the start of the war. Words mean something, and when you are low on trust, which Germany is, you need to be careful of your words in public. This is not being careful and it ought to be obvious that such a ludicrous statement would be attacked by every man and his dog.

He spoke to people there who were totally opposed to the war and offered to discuss it with respect for both sides.
I am not defending him, but its important to take the audience into the account.

Kind of tired having to highlight criticism of Europe’s two premier continental states in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Tired that I am the only soul doing it (I don’t understand why, everyone that posts here must surely see it too) and tired of the defensive objections.
I love Germany, like France a lot. Have both German and French friends, but I don’t understand what the hell is wrong with highlighting their awful role prior to and post the Russian invasion and why people are so adamant at defending it. Once a month I am turned into the bad guy who criticises Germany or France when I in reality am a big fan of both countries. Tired of it.

Truth be told, this is a shit day all around and I am off.

That’s all fair and fine. But is not mitigating for the reasons I stated (in my view). The messaging is a big problem since Germany atNATO proclaims it as a NATO statement.

Anyway. I am off. Not the best day ever over here. I am off to a friend to do something funny (I hope). Take care.

You still don’t understand that unfortunately a lot of people here are absolutely against the war, don’t want to sent heavy weapons, are afraid of Russian consequences etc. And they are loud and everywhere. Especially in East Germany.

I don’t think that’s a good thing, but I have to accept that unfortunately that’s the way it is here.

How have I given you the impression that I don’t understand that ? I don’t understand how you can say that. How does that alter or excuse anything anyway ?
I have pointed repeatedly at Germany having lost enormous amount of political capital. And since you claim I don’t understand, well then I will turn the table, you don’t seem to understand how much trust, which is the capital I am speaking about, Germany have lost. Then having lost so much, one needs to be careful both in actions and in statements and seek to improve it.
A government who does not make controversial but correct decisions out of political fear needs to be criticised ! Irrespective of how many Pro-Russians there are.

And like I have said several times, I know you don’t like it. I know what your opinion is and I know you didn’t vote for your government and all that. But Livvy, I am not critical of you, but of the government, both actions and messaging.

Anyway, now I really must go. I wasn’t lying when I said I had a bad day and I don’t want to be bogged down in an argument. I find it emotional taxing to have to argue this at all.

Those guys are fucking brave.

Some of the footage is amazing. This war is the fIrst time I have seen professional soilders fight at relative close combat.

Yeah, although the clip a few days ago of someone lobbing a grenade was a bit theatrical, imo, it only went a few yards.

there were a lot of people 80 years ago that felt the same way about sending their children to war in Europe when Germany invaded Poland and France. My grandfather didn’t want to be part of D-Day but he did and he lost his brother in the days following their Juno Beach landing in Normandy. But there was an evil spreading that had to be stopped.

How quickly people forget the lessons learned from history. you cannot let a bully gather momentum, you have to act powerfully and swiftly. Having Putin waving his nuclear card around should be seen as the largest of bluffs.

Thread:

Agree: Haebeck doesn’t routinely cause a PR disaster and increase of distrust towards Germany. As a Social Democrat, I am ashamed of the German government. This is rather embarrassing for me:
