I daren’t say it but maybe Trump has a point about NATO. The US are committing billions to the Ukraine in terms of aid and weapons for a war happening on the European continent. Additional support seems to be on an independent basis (By country) not as a collective.
I understand that the Ukraine is not part of Nato and therefore does not fall under the defensive agreement, but wasn’t the 1949 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) designed to defend against the Soviet Union. Well the Soviet Union may no longer be, but it is clear Putin’s ambition is to reinstate It. To me it seems NATO are being hesitant under a technicality.
It appears that the major European states have forgotten how WWII started, how Germany annexed areas of Czechoslovakia whilst we dithered, allowing for their aspirations to be fuelled to greater things - we all know the repercussions of this.
The government’s of Germany and France, in my opinion should reflect on their role/responsibility in this conflict and realise that their stance is going to cause more issues in the long term. They like to portray themselves as the foundation of the EU, creating a state of free trade, movement, etc, without actually understanding the fundamentals of how to deliver/manage this.
Bad news today. More and more signs that the pocket is collapsing. RU videos today released showing several hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners taken at Lyman. That’s bad. I had hoped that most managed to escape.
Today we also get the news that Severodonetsk is under mechanized assault and falling
Neil is a solid journo by the way. I advocate a follow.
Also:
By the way, the Ukrainian air force has downed a SU-35. I didn’t mention it earlier, since I don’t tend to believe uncorroborated Ukrainian reports on downing Russian aircrafts (most of which are lies), but it is indeed corroborated and it did indeed happen today ! So some good news.
From yesterday
Reports of Ukrainian advance at Kherson, corroborated by many sources
Some annoyance for Kreml likely. The Stan countries are not happy about this war.
I don’t think your interpreting what is being written correctly.
It’s political not economic or military. The suggestion is that there will be a new force in the EU. A fair bit of gloating from anglophile countries over the current situation. I can smell it from here.
The other stuff that should be discussed in detail and that isn’t what we are reading we are reading gloating swipes.
A lot of anglo saxon press, we have seen quite a bit posted on this thread, we shouldn,t be oblivious to it.
That France and Germany are critised is fine, I’m disappointed with them as well. Jumping on the EU new axis (falling apart) is a leap to far imo. Perhaps to feel it’s funny, i don’t know, but it is the line pushed by the anglophile media, I just think it has little substance and is gloating!
That isn’t what I said, you misunderstand!
Your joking right?
No, I haven’t seen much gloating. I have seen praise given to some states that they are contributing more than expected (such as Baltic states and CEE countries), but apart from maybe Johnson a bit, not seen much gloating.
Edit: I guess USA. But politically, they must boast and use it for domestic politics or they are attacked by Republicans. But I would not call it gloating. In my view, every Western country should provide what they feasibly could do, and some are providing much too little for their stature. That’s my criticism.
Glad I misunderstood you.
Yes! it’s embarrassing.
This is what should be talked about along with their leaders stupid childish comments.
Not the stupid childish camps within Europe.
You have completely missunderstood.
It’s the context and a lot of the political context seems to be passing you by atm
What Germany and France do should be criticised or praised on it’s face value. The added political junk we can do without.
I really don’t think much political context is passing me by at all. That was what I was so disappointed Livvy wrote. Now you as well. Okay…
Fine. I read and read, but apparently, “it is all passing me by and I don’t get it”:
Tell the truth, I read a fucking lot about this. Probably much more than you. I am no ignoramus either about either Germany nor France.
So Livvy (Yes, I saw you gave his post a like) Flobs, what exactly is passing me by. What special context is it that I don’t understand ? You should at least be polite enough to mention something “I don’t get”…
Also, where the fuck did I criticise Germany or France when it wasn’t on “face value” ? When exactly ?
I am just extremely disappointed at you too. I thought so much better of you, but today you both have insulted me out of the blue, taking a massive dump on my knowledge without explaining what I don’t understand. The least you could do is explain what “I don’t get” concerning the political context. Very least really if you are the sort of good people I think you are.
I am seriously disappointed and more than a bit irate.
The insinuation that I don’t know basic stuff about Germany and France is frankly infuriating. As if I don’t know there are political problems concerning Russia-thinking in eastern Germany, it is frankly mindboogling that Livvy seems to think I don’t know this. It is fucking basic and I had hoped she thought me more than a pure retard with zero knowledge about the outside world.
