Ryan GRAVENBERCH: 2024/25

Starve? But you have a takeaway!

Who was it that when we signed him, mentioned about him not smiling ā€¦ hall of shame post IMHO

About 5-6 did.

He isnā€™t a pure #6. Neither is Mac.

Both of them interchange their roles during matches depending on transitions.

Give a man a takeaway and he eats for a day.

Teach a man to order unlimited takeawaysā€¦ and the fat fuck will have a heart attack inside a year.

Haha @Arminius

Surely thereā€™s more to it than just formations and structures within a formation.

You react, learn, mature, change clubs, leagues, managers, team mates, etc.

He could go back to Bayern now, play in a double-pivot midfield and not necessarily do as well as heā€™s doing here now. Let them rotten with that Palhinha move, that wasnā€™t a good move from their perspective in my opinion. Overrated and not that needed, plus heā€™s not young.

Ryan is a joy to watch at the moment, long may it continue and improve.

Ryan Gravenberch: ā€œI have indeed started playing more defensively.ā€

ā€œLast year, I went forward more often, but now I have to think more defensively. That change happened quite quickly.

ā€œI have Virgil behind me to help me. If I go forward too much, he calls me back. ā€˜Rio, stay here!ā€™.ā€

ā€œI notice that he has to call less and less often and that I focus more on defending. In attack, I try to read the game. That often works well.ā€

Rio :joy:

How on earth did we con Bayern into selling this ledge to us??

They had him pegged as an attacking midfielder, and 3rd on the depth chart. Very specifically believed he could not play a number 6 because he was a defensive liability and could not receive and turn under the sort of pressure a deep-lying midfielder faces.

Lots of players donā€™t like the role because they feel itā€™s limiting and they want to be able to get forward and do things. The thing I love about the way heā€™s playing it is every game there are Orson Wells standing ovation moments with the way he plays himself out of trouble and transitions us into a promising attack. Heā€™s a joy to watch right now, and a walking coaching film

Itā€™s the whole package, and for me it is his defensive quality that is standing out, because I didnā€™t think he had it in him, how wrong I was, he pocketed Bellingham.

On the ball totally agree with what say he is a level above others in how he opens up and steps beyond the press with the ball.

All Iā€™ll say is we arenā€™t worthy

Didnā€™t have to cost us >Ā£100m eitherā€¦

Get Tchouameni too alongside him and we would finally be getting 2 of the 3 initial targets that Klopp had to revamp the midfield

Itā€™s been the case for a few months now it feels like, but heā€™s pretty much my favourite current player in the squad.

Sure there are some bona fide club legends in the team, but thereā€™s nothing quite like unexpected brilliance and a comeback story.
