Yup that’s exactly what it is. And you have to wade through the bile to find the good stuff, as the algorithm boosts the bile.
I have a decent following (5k) on twitter and there was previously a good community within my field. I’m fully aware that it’s meaningless egotistical bullshit, but it does feel like a wrench to start from scratch on Bluesky
That’s another thing BlueSky has done well from a product perspective to make the transition easier. They have a variety of options including what they call “starter packs” that allow you to rebuild your account in terms of who you are following pretty well. It does nothing directly to rebuild your following, but if everyone who moves over uses it then your people should find you pretty easily.
In the last few days I have gained 4 times as many followers on Bluesky than I have had in 15 years of Twitter. I generally don’t go looking for followers, but it’s mainly Liverpool fans that are finding me on Bluesky. At least from an LFC point of view, it looks to be building a decent community.

Naturally the Twitter algorithm decides to insert many other subjects into my timeline.
As difficult and physically demanding as it is, I muster up all my strength to lift my thumb and scroll the screen past the content I have no interest in.
It’s tough, and saps my energy, but I get through it.
I’ve tried Threads for a couple of months and met a few good people there, but now headed to Bluesky to avoid toxic billionaires.
Zuckerberg did some pretty clunky censorship around the election.
