Should TAN ban X?

I know that I am not alone in wanting to see TAN ban the reposting of material from Twitter/X on this forum.

Why? There are two main reasons:

The first is the practical one: threads containing tweets take longer to load and often take you back miles from the last post, so you have to scroll back down again to reach where you want to be when picking up a thread.

The second reason is ethical: Elon Musk is a cunt, and X reflects this. Look, for example, at his recent actions and comments regarding British politics:

I appreciate that X has its place, but a lot of it is just a morass of far-right drivel these days. I haven’t seen any evidence of the alt-right taking over TAN, but surely giving X more clicks by reposting tweets on here isn’t an ethical approach.

I know that I am going to be in a minority on this (not that that bothers me), but I wanted to at least put the idea out there for discussion.

Plus, it’s an international break so we all need somewhere to vent our spleen.

We have a dedicated thread for Twitter rumours. I don’t see the point in it, personally, as these rumours are usually pointless and transfer rumours can easily be found elsewhere.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

It’s your first day, so I’ll be nice to you.

Don’t expect it to last, though.

How else can people kneejerk and slam the club for something they haven’t done?

In all seriousness, the only thread I will miss it in is with @Magnus’ contributions on the Russian war crimes.

Rejecting X on the subjective opinion of someone is silly. You might as well have banned a Chelsea thread while RA owned it, the Man U thread because Jim Ratcliffe it a twat and has treated workers unfairly.

The second reason is, I agree, an absolute annoyance as I have to continuously scroll while the posts constantly load and expand.

Except those threads don’t contribute to the revenue of the respective entities. Twitter impressions do, for ad-serving purposes.

Only if you click on it, or you can be one of those people that want a show cancelled because they believe in their opinion that its morally wrong, rather than just changing the channel.

I doubt I agree with everything Musk says or believes, so where should the level be and who will be the “big brother” that makes the decision. Just ridiculous. The 1st reason of the post is quite reasonable, yet the second is silly as its completely subjective and doesn’t really help legitimize the thread.

You are always nice.

I believe embeds count towards the metrics that they use to advertise their reach to advertisers. As for the second, I suppose it’s as subjective as not wanting to give airtime to the far right can be.

Do other social media forums have the ability to embed? Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon etc without an account.

OK. As an experiment, can anyone read these?

I don’t have Threads, but maybe someone could try that?

I think this is an interesting discussion, actually. Because, fuck Elon Musk, honestly.

@ISMF @Hope.in.your.heart @Arminius @Nikola @Mascot thoughts?

Unfortunately, the reason he paid umpteen billion for it is that it was and is important as a platform. As others have noted, the Ukraine war thread alone illustrates that.

I am also not incredibly worried about him actually making a single dollar from it.

I can see those previews.

Do your have a Bluesky or Mastodon account? I am trying to see if other message boards can be cleanly shared without a login.

I obiously agree. But more importantly (more important, because I don’t think you will actually enact such a ban, in which case that had been more important and I would be extremely against, to put it midly), are you in the process of teasing us as to your new delightful profile picture; yet kept hidden from public eye ? I could not help to notice that you have removed your old one.

Wow so if I got this right, before musk when twitter was considered “liberal” and they, Facebook & Google apparently was censoring /or not showing content that was considered " conservative" no one had any issues with it,

But now that musk has brought it and the boot is on the other metaphorical foot…people are now wanting one of the biggest social media platforms banned on here ?

Seriously the amount of contradictory views on here is almost comical if wasn’t real…we seem to be walking blindly into an Orwellian society, where we are actually doing the work for big brother by wanting the site mods to ban a popular social media outlet simply because some people allow their political view to be more important than someone else’s with an opposing view ?

I’m not on social media other than this website, but those who do post x/twitter or whatever posts either political/ funny/ football rumours and those ones about the wonderful nature threads etc should not be restricted from posting them just because the politburo of those offended by musk owning twitter offends them.

There is a very real posibillity that banks will take over twitter from Musk in the future. Because things are not going well for Musk
