I know that I am not alone in wanting to see TAN ban the reposting of material from Twitter/X on this forum.
Why? There are two main reasons:
The first is the practical one: threads containing tweets take longer to load and often take you back miles from the last post, so you have to scroll back down again to reach where you want to be when picking up a thread.
The second reason is ethical: Elon Musk is a cunt, and X reflects this. Look, for example, at his recent actions and comments regarding British politics:
I appreciate that X has its place, but a lot of it is just a morass of far-right drivel these days. I haven’t seen any evidence of the alt-right taking over TAN, but surely giving X more clicks by reposting tweets on here isn’t an ethical approach.
I know that I am going to be in a minority on this (not that that bothers me), but I wanted to at least put the idea out there for discussion.
Plus, it’s an international break so we all need somewhere to vent our spleen.
We have a dedicated thread for Twitter rumours. I don’t see the point in it, personally, as these rumours are usually pointless and transfer rumours can easily be found elsewhere.
Rejecting X on the subjective opinion of someone is silly. You might as well have banned a Chelsea thread while RA owned it, the Man U thread because Jim Ratcliffe it a twat and has treated workers unfairly.
The second reason is, I agree, an absolute annoyance as I have to continuously scroll while the posts constantly load and expand.
Only if you click on it, or you can be one of those people that want a show cancelled because they believe in their opinion that its morally wrong, rather than just changing the channel.
I doubt I agree with everything Musk says or believes, so where should the level be and who will be the “big brother” that makes the decision. Just ridiculous. The 1st reason of the post is quite reasonable, yet the second is silly as its completely subjective and doesn’t really help legitimize the thread.
I believe embeds count towards the metrics that they use to advertise their reach to advertisers. As for the second, I suppose it’s as subjective as not wanting to give airtime to the far right can be.
Unfortunately, the reason he paid umpteen billion for it is that it was and is important as a platform. As others have noted, the Ukraine war thread alone illustrates that.
I am also not incredibly worried about him actually making a single dollar from it.
I obiously agree. But more importantly (more important, because I don’t think you will actually enact such a ban, in which case that had been more important and I would be extremely against, to put it midly), are you in the process of teasing us as to your new delightful profile picture; yet kept hidden from public eye ? I could not help to notice that you have removed your old one.
