Should TAN ban X?

Everyone knows that it is an absolute cesspit, run by a fascist sympathing demagogue.

But nobody will leave because no-one else will.

Therein lies the problem.

My position is that we should - all of us - cut our ties with that toxic platform. It is literally fuelling a far right takeover of our public sphere, and we’re allowing it to do so.

Agree with the moral arguments being expressed. From a practical perspective, it’s a real pain in the arse when people post multiple links from X and you have to scroll for ages to find any actual comments

I’m on forums for the Phillies and the Flyers (still love you guys best, don’t be jealous). They’ve banned X over the last week and it’s been a pretty seamless move to Bluesky.

I don’t know if Europe-based football journalists have moved to Bluesky in the same numbers as baseball/hockey, to be fair, but I suppose sometimes making a stand comes at a cost regardless.

I think it’s probably time to ban it. Ethics aside, it’s a shite platform, anyway.

The only problem with Bluesky that I can see is that the previews don’t show properly. So if someone shares a video on Bluesky and I want to share it here, it doesn’t appear as a preview if you know what I mean.

Another option - not sure if it’s been discussed here (probably has) - is to ban the links but allow screenshots.

We should flood Twitter with Gasbag’s “artwork” and totally fuck the algorithm.

Wouldn’t mind this.

Hey hey my seagulls might have wings but I am not into these left and right wing shit and if you don’t mind seeing tons of birds every time Magnus post a thread on the Russian war…I am fine with that too :joy:

On this I think screenshots are the way forward. One bonus about Bluesky is you can view a post without being logged in.

I basically cleared and deleted my Twitter/X account and not felt the need to go back, my mental health is so much better for it. Ok I’m missing some stuff but it’s not something that matters anyhow.

There is a lot to be said in favour of actively avoiding toxic content.

I think that’s one common thing I’ve seen about Bluesky, that blocking is actually sufficiently active that if for example you wanted to look only at content related to a particular topic, e.g. us, then you can actively filter out other people’s posts. They can still post and not be banned, but then you don’t have to see and interact with them. You don’t have some shit algorithm (for now) actively pushing hate and discord to push up engagement.

Surely there’s no need for further debate on the fact that Musk is an evil bastard from hell.

So
Are we banning this heap of shit?

If not today, we will do it in the next year or so.

Looks like we aren’t banning it, just to keep a couple of users happy.

Even though it appears that more posters would rather see it gone.

I want it banned. The sooner we unlatch from that teat, we might be able to shift our source of information from elsewhere as a society rather than from a Nazi’s plaything.

It would be strange to see the spread of bans across Reddit and yet we won’t do it on a bloody Liverpool forum.

Fuck it off pronto.
