Should TAN ban X?

And there is a huge difference between Musk monetizing this directly and indirectly for his own benefit.

Usual request for the forum to implement the aubergine/eggplant emoji…

He gets power from it.

He doesn’t need to get revenue from Twitter. He runs the discourse, and he reaps the benefits out of this in someway with his other ventures. Be it SpaceX , Tesla or DOGE.

And it’s somewhat ironic given the calls for tiktok to be banned when Musk is doing far worse with Twitter.

I’m also with @Cologne-Liverpool in the ā€œdo what you wantā€ camp. I can easily ignore X posts and not have any regrets. I do wonder if in a few years (months/days) we’ll look back and wonder why we stayed with a hate mongering site. We’ll never know when it becomes that. But maybe it won’t. I know if I ran a business, I’d never want to be associated with the downside of that risk.

Caveat: I am a proud snowflake

The calls to ban tiktok are primarily based on the data they collect from users and how they use it, not it’s impact on society. That is not really applicable to the current twitter debate.

I’d argue X is giving Musk plenty of data too (from the platform and indirectly whatever government agency he is currently invading).

Sure. And maybe he’ll do illegal shit with it. Shit, maybe he already is. But at least for now there arent claims that he is hence them not being subject to the same level of scrutiny and censure as TikTok.

Oh agree. I’m just already cynical (so to speak).

Hurry Up

My position too.

On a personal note I’m not on Twitter/X. Can’t be doing with that. It’s a shame as it is a great source of info, but for the most part, that has been overcome by the cesspool that it is. Then when you take into account the owner, it’s a clear nope from me. Other platforms are emerging. It will take a bit of getting used to, but life goes on.

Effectively since they’ve shoved it behind a wall the only thing worth posting is images and videos because they can be viewed without logging in. Where pretty much every other bit of social media doesn’t require that.

And let’s face it, it’s not helped in stopping spam.

New proposal: instead of an immediate site-wide ban, how about we start by phasing it in in stages?

E.g. let’s start by banning one specific person from sharing stuff from that Xesspit.

That’s discrimination. Just because you don’t agree with that particular poster’s views, doesn’t mean they should be banned before anyone else.

Yep, I stand with @Limiescouse

I don’t agree, because it’s not about simply about the videos, it’s about the incessant dumping all over the forums, in such volume that we’re essentially being treated to their personal feed.

You can disagree as much as you like: you’re still wrong.

Even if it was someone whose views I’d agree with, I disagree with the diarrhoea being posted all over, because that’s what it is.

Instead of banning individuals i would go with banning in certain threads. Start with prematch threads. Then move to post match and other threads in The Albert ect.

I still find @Magnus using x in the Russian War Crimes thread very useful so would keep it available for that thread as long as possible.
