He’s gone all Jesus, apparently. No offense bud, I know your beliefs and respect it but nut jobs like this are a prime example of how it’s been corrupted for personal gain and how easily it’s achieved.
I didn’t know that about him, thanks for letting me know. There’s a certain branch of vocal, jingoistic, evangelical Christianity in America, and it equates being a good Christian with supporting all the nonsense we’ve seen in recent years.
It is mistaken, and way off base with what Christianity actually stands for, but unfortunately in America nationhood and Christianity have blended together in an ugly mess, at least for many people in the Trump sphere.
Rittenhouse has also released a video game where you shoot sheep wearing “main stream media” vests.
He’s trying to grift it as much as possible, although his generally unlikable persona is making it difficult for him to actually make much of a splash.
Speaking of jingoistic Christianity… I’ve been listening to the QAnon Anonymous podcast’s series on Tulsi Gabbard (who is now trying to establish herself in the Republican party as an extreme right wing candidate). She’s a literal member of a violently regressive Hindu cult - a fraction of the Hari Krishna’s called Science of Identity. She’s married to a member of the cult. All her staff are members of the cult. She specifically defended the cult leader when he killed a local fisherman in Hawaii in a boating accident. She was groomed for office by the cult. She joined the military to enhance her political resume at the say so of the cult. They funded her to get there with the specific intention of getting political influence to the cult…
But now that she failed (through no lack of negligence, complacency and basic lack of interest from the Democratic Party) to make it as a liberal, she’s decided to try and make it as a Nazi and is promoting herself as pro-gun, anti-choice, anti-LGBT, anti-Jewish, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim (although this isn’t new, her islamophobia is the single biggest thing she cares about) and you guessed it… a Christian. Having never previously been a Christian, and without renouncing her membership to the SOI AND while taking money from an Indian political group that has recently murdered 350 Christians in a pogrom, she is going on her podcast everyday and praying. It’s all for show, it’s all fake and it’s all getting gobbled up by the right wing.
She’s going to make a strong push to be the Vice President if any Republican wins in 2024. She may even try for President again. A cult member. Astonishing.
Just for my information, and especially in case Tulsi Gabbard rises to prominence, what does the cult believe?
I had a glance online, and couldn’t find much. Maybe some stuff on yoga and whatnot, but I didn’t see anything especially untoward.
So I would be very interested in hearing why the Science of Identity is a cult, and what it is about their beliefs and/or practices that might be problematic or even dangerous.
On its surface there is lots that most people would think of as just odd (think 70s California crunchy surfer counter culture) that would raise suspicions about someone being asked to make important decisions being a member. Secondly, there is a lot of open ugliness, but given the current political landscape one doesn’t need to be a member of this cult to advocate anti-LGBT and anti-muslim ideas.
But I think the big challenge is with cults is the discrepancy between their public facing ideas vs what its really like inside. You might look at all the above and conclude you cant see much distance between her or someone like Romney from LDS. Fuck, or even Mike Pence. But I think what really defines cults as being problematic is what is allowed to happen to the people within in the interest of the cult. How difficult is it for someone to leave? What are the penalties for apostasy? What will get overlooked and buried in the interest of protecting the cult and the leader.
So again, maybe not that different from someone like Romney. Or Pence
Thanks for the info. Hopefully there’s some distance between cults and the sort of Christian beliefs I have seen Mike Pence espouse.
I suppose if the starting point is that it is all Sky Fairies anyway, there might not be much difference, I dunno!
Anyway, don’t want this fine thread to turn into a religion thread as there’s a perfectly good one of those.
But for Sweeting or anyone else with more info to add, I am genuinely interested to learn more about the Science of Identity people. It all sounded pretty ominous above.
At the weekend, Musk briefly banned all links to the rival service and suspended users who tweeted out their Mastodon usernames, but has now admitted the apparent move to prevent Twitter users migrating was an error. “That one was a mistake,” Musk said on a Twitter livestream with a former intern on Tuesday night, adding: “Fucking post Mastodon all goddamn day long, I don’t care. From an evolutionary standpoint, how’d that work out for the mastodons?”
I have only heard of them through the podcast but they have a history of extreme and violent beliefs about LGBT people and Muslim people. They believe that a guy called Chris Butler is some kind of prophet. Members are not allowed to have sex, drink, smoke etc and they must have portraits of Butler displayed in their house. Gabbard was selected as a potential political candidate at a young age and her life path has been dictated and selected by Butler. One thing the podcast clearly shows is that her beliefs have had one core central tenet - the hatred of Islam and Muslim people, which is linked to her raising in the cult.
