Looks like a publicity stunt.
Would have just have been cheaper to start from scratch and build X from the ground up rather than paying for twitter and making it worse and then rebranding.
I realise he paid for the existing users, but if he drives them all off till there’s only the right wing fanboys left then it really wasn’t worth it.

Who gave Musk permission to change the name of an app on my phone? Twitter is now X I get that but it’s been updated on my phone without asking. OK, nobody ever reads the terms and conditions but this one surprised me.
