I’m really surprised by this widespread interest in Dest.

He’s quality on Football Manager. Isn’t that where most clubs do their scouting these days?

Not sure spending £35m on Semedo is great value tbh.

The Athletic:

Manchester City are working to finalise the signing of Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde in the coming days, reports Sam Lee.

City had made Kalidou Koulibaly their priority defensive target this summer but were unable to reach an agreement with Napoli. The negotiations were conducted via Koulibaly’s agent, Fali Ramadani, because City did not want to deal with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis, after he reneged on a deal for Jorginho in 2018.

City offered the Italian club an ultimatum a fortnight ago but could not force them to lower their asking price and have since moved on.

The Premier League side made an enquiry about Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez earlier in the summer, but were told they would have to pay his release clause of €120m, which remained the club’s stance when they made a second enquiry at the end of August.

Kounde emerged as a serious alternative while City were pursuing their move for Lionel Messi at the end of August and start of September. City believe Sevilla will sell the Frenchman for below his €90 million release clause.

The 21-year-old is, in terms of profile, a completely different option to the 29-year-old Koulibaly. City had prized the Senegal international’s experience, imposing presence and the fact he would have been regarded as a marquee signing inside the dressing room and throughout the Premier League.

Kounde is incredibly highly rated around Sevilla but is under six feet tall and will not create the same kind of buzz around the club. However, City believe he would improve their team and their pursuit of him highlights their determination not to be left empty-handed after missing out on primary targets, as they have been with Jorginho and Harry Maguire in the past two summers.

They just don’t realise how lucky they were in missing out on those two.

Thats interesting. A CB under 6 ft. Set pieces could become a problem for them if his jumping game is off/ poor. Not sure Ake is that dominant in the air either so possibly reliant on Laporte?

Here we go @Redbj - @redfanman has set this up beautifully. Has anyone seen Makati Red? We need to know how high Kounde can jump. This could be a game changer.

We also missed out on Jorginho.

He didn’t look that in Europa League and I was paying attention to him and Carlos specifically because of emerging links with Man City. I think Sevilla will fleece Man City for either of these two but I don’t think they will care. It seems like there is a dearth of good ball playing centre backs going on, Arsenal seems to have done really well with stealing a march on Gabriel and Saliba.

Operation “let’s find a new slave for Ronaldo”.

Juve have lost me with some of their moves lately, I struggle to follow.

Dominance brings boredom which brings suspicious moves, I guess.

Ooo Eddie, it’s Monday you know

You promised some cleaning this week, you remember

The Athletic:

Burnley have made a renewed bid to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens, reports Andy Naylor.

Manager Sean Dyche has turned his attention back to the 31-year-old after a persistent attempt to sign him four years ago.

Brighton rejected six bids from Burnley and a transfer request from Stephens on that occasion, having just missed out on promotion from the Championship in the 2015-16 season.

Love them or hate them, you gotta respect Burnley, they’re like a cat with 9 lives.

So far, they only brought a 3rd goalkeeper replacement. :joy:
