He strikes me as a defensive midfielder Rafa would have loved to have in his Liverpool days. I think that Man United need (someone like) him, Chelsea and Man City not so much. The situation there has changed now with Laporte back so he’s seemingly now willing to at least talk about the prospect of staying, and at this stage of his career either decision he makes should be considered a reasonable one for him. So, he has now gone back into negotiations, but that cannot be finalized until Barca get their overall wage bull into compliance with the La Liga salary cap, which their existing commitments for this season including a baseline renewal for Messi exceed by about 100%.
How his own advisors and lawyers have got him into this situation is what dumbfounds me. They obviously aren’t working for Messi’s best interests.
That was bizarre, but I suspect that was a case of Messi himself making his mind up too late and his advisors thinking they should chance it and try to force the move in the expectation that if it didnt work Barca would still be seen as the bad guys.
