This Griezemann situation at Atleti is probably the best example of you can find of how the transfer market has broken football. He was at a club who couldnāt afford to keep him and no one who could make room for him could afford him either. Atleti struck an oddly structured loan deal to take him back with clauses that if met would require them to pay a big chunk. The main clause relates to the number of times he plays 45 minutes in a game, and so to avoid triggering that they are using him exclusively a second half sub. This is a player who may well start the world cup final in December and yet heās being forced into a 30 mins a game supersub role because both the clubs who have had his registration have driven themselves to the edge of insolvency and are now playing stupid games with players as if they chess pieces.
