I don’t think it is comparable as the Chinese spending was driven by companies given permission to do so but under the understanding it drove the domestic game to better heights. Saudi spending is done with much deeper pockets and a broader goal.

And to make what you said explicit…the entity using football in this way is the source of the money. They are perfectly aligned and the spending will only stop when MBS decides its time to stop.

Same story with Angelo. 18 years old, already made 100 appearances for Santos playing in big competitions. Signs for Chelsea for £15m and does well in pre-season… he’s been loaned to Strasbourg (who have some sort of ownership link to Chelsea).
Wonder where they are going to loan Deivid Washington to.
Between Angelo, Santos and Washington they’ve spent more than we spent on MacAllister but would anyone be surprised if none of them ever actually play for Chelsea?
