One of my best friends played on the Finnish youth teams with him. The best man at his wedding also played on that team as a CF and they all take the piss out of him saying he only got selected because the actual best CF in Finland was made to play in goal. Apparently Niemi was unstoppable

To be fair I’d be annoyed with that

Actually Walter von Reichenau commanded the 6th Army in Barbarossa. Paulus only took over after Reichenau got killed :stuck_out_tongue:

Bastard. Openly supportive of the Einsatzgruppen and his Severity order actively drew regular Wehrmacht units into the killings. One thing though my dear Mr Magnus;

Paulus got command of the 6th after Von Reichenau replaced Von Rundstedt as commander of Army Group South in November '41. Von Reichenau then died in January '42 from a heart attack or stroke and then the plane carrying him for further medical attention crashed, I believe.Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Yes, my memory is not perfect, but I thought his heart failed under heavy shelling. Doesn’t really matter. But such details interest me, so I should reread this history

Edit: Goes without saying that he would have been executed post war unless he managed to escape to Argentina, given his monstrous war crimes.

All happened 80-85 years ago now but I’m a bit jaded about that. Was watching a few documentaries about 2nd SS Das Reich this week and how few of their commanders and soldiers who survived the war actually got the judgement they deserved despite massacres on both Eastern and Western Fronts.

I suppose Von Reichenau as a being front and centre will have been brought up but too many either escaped or just managed to live out quiet lives.

Von Reichenau was the centre of war crimes allegations against for instance von Rundstedt and others due to the Severity Order, so there is no chance in hell that he could have escaped capital punishment; I reckon.

In any case, he is dead and just history now.

I’ve definitely turned off podcasts for less egregious errors.

One of our ‘old guard’ might have been ousted a while back… but funny how he keeps popping up everywhere… :0)
Bring him back into the mix and let’s just get on with it

The obsequiousness shown to said person even in his supposed absence is still quite remarkable.

Yeah you might call it that if you want… I’d prefer to call it getting some of the old gang back together.
Obviously you are not and never been a fan of his… who cares about that except you… To me anyway, I have no problem dealing with someone that shoots from the hip and speaks their mind… we meet all kinds in life, we deal with it…
For what it is worth, if it was you that had been jettisoned, I would drop a reminder now and again to get you back… I have no skin in the game here apart from seeing numbers dwindle when there is no need…

Cynical right.

I actually think that was two people, I noticed sometimes he would contradictory agree with something he had argued previously against regarding my posts.

There was a forum I was on that this turned out to be the case. (That sounded a bit like father Ted and his raffle).

You will lose a few if he is brought back.
He is a fucking obnoxious prick. If ever a ban was justified he was it.
He had his moments, where mine and his views intersected, and I respected him for a long period
But he became a cult figure to a small few in here and he couldn’t be questioned without resorting to insult.
Fuck him.

@wyld.at.hrt hints at "supposed " absence.
Personally I believe his over inflated ego wouldn’t allow him to be quiet as a disguised forum member.

I doubt you are really campaigning for his return. Maybe just testing the water?
If he comes back, apologises and promises to behave I would still leave.

And yes, its only a forum, its only the Internet etc etc. But we should still have some rules of engagement?

Just as a matter of interest, are there any checks to see if a banned user creates a new account under a burner email? Or if they are on best behavior is it not regarded as an issue?
