The Anfield Noise - Users

Unfortunately, this place is being taken over by joyless, dull people who apparently have no sense of humour. It’s why I have cut down on my posting of late.

And there you have the issue. Think about it, we absolutely shouldn’t be tolerant of all views. Who judges? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Thanks Terry.

When it comes to encouraging new members to post here, it is definitely helpful as a community to be friendly, open and helpful. There are always those who don’t want to or can’t do that, but I don’t even read that anymore. As I said, I’m concerned with how we as a community appear to the outside world and what we can perhaps do better.

Pretty sure any new poster gets a welcome response from a good number of members. I try to but then I try to be tidy and organised. My wife will tell you at length how successful I am at that. Once she’s finished laughing……

In answer to your question…
The Moderators…

On a Liverpool supporters forum we are to some degree a homogeneous group, insofar as our interests intersect on a least one level.

Our political, social, religious views won’t always coincide, which is fair enough.
But in general a moral compass and ethical standard exists, albeit in spirit rather than by contract.
We mostly adhere to this.

That’s true, but then they’ve already taken the first step or the first post. But we’re talking about those who just read along here in silence .

If you’re just here to read and not engage, I question the point of being on a forum. They’re informative (occasionally) sure but the whole point is interaction.

Dont suppose you could cut down on it a little (lot) more could you?

How else do you think he’s lasted all this time? Pure spite is what fuels the cynic.

I think this is a brilliant post, along with the rest of your comments earlier @Livvy - Well Done
I hope I’ve guessed the gender correct here (due to a recent comment you made to @Wilkored08 )…
Anyway, it got me to thinking of this…

LEONARD COHEN: “I might say that the female presence on stage is very, very important for a number of reasons. One is that women are very highly evolved spiritual creatures, and when a lot of us got slack or vulgar or moved into a kind of locker-room mode…they were always there to remind us of the high calling that had gathered us there in the first place.” –

I’m sorry to read this Livvy. It’s a great shame that you feel that way. It really shouldn’t be like that.
It’s so easy to forget that there are real people with real feelings behind the funny names and avatars.
I hope you stay around because you are a valued poster on here.

Why leave it till the last minute? We can at least plan his order of service surely?

Test case?

I echo what others have said: sorry to read that you see this forum like that. As far as I know, the ‘bloody foreigner’ tune is only held by one member, and always in a spirit of humour (I fully expect cynicaloldgit coming up now and saying that he has always been dead serious about it… ).

If you’ve noticed posts with that kind of comments in a serious tone, then report them by all means of course, but I’ve never seen them to be honest.

For the rest, it’s a fact: we are a bit of an old-ladies and -boys group. Anyone wishing to join in will have to overcome a bit of timidity at first. But the overwhelming majority of posters here are of a good enough nature to make them feel welcome very shortly.

So, if there are people lurking around: don’t hesitate to come in. We are a good bunch, and won’t eat you alive. :kissing_heart:

I assume an internet community will always mirror real world communities. I don’t think the moderators can regulate the personality of the community because that too will produce member losses. A deep breath helps overcome a lot in real life and here too.

Plus there is the ignore feature. I don’t usually use it because it creates choppiness, but I have recently to preserve the equanimity you all normally associate with me.

But since everyone is quibbling about korma, could you please tell me how I can ignore myself?

Thanks

PS: ban anyone who goes off on Darwin being offsides or useless without suggesting whom else John can buy with his money.

Life is short. Laugh when you can. Walk away when you can’t. We can’t read minds and intentions. Enjoy the forum. There are some quality people and Liverpool supporters here. I know that from the personal kindnesses they have shown me.
