I’m an anti-theist but when I saw this as a fridge magnet when I first went to my missuses house (1993!) it did make me think “that’s right”

@PeachesEnRegalia

This is not cool.

People are picking on me. (especially indian cooking etc etc)

Please post more so that people pick on you more.

Obviously they are not welcome so they don’t stay.

You still not banned on here lol. How’s life mate?

We are a small but highly engaged community. We have roughly 140 users who post each month, of those approx 80-90 users post each day (spikes higher on match days or announcements)

The health of a forum is determined by the ratio between daily engaged users:monthly engaged. In short greater than 20-30% is considered good, 50% considered excellent. Twitter is currently 32%, Facebook 50% for context. On our worst day (no match, no news) we are >60%.

Our numbers are very steady. No growth but also no decline. The limited users that have left, frequently return or are replaced by new users. Others return after a few months. A few users above are good examples

Also remember a lot of people sign up and never post. Some just read, others just “like” posts.

I agree more new user would be good for forum and I would be happy if any user wanted to manage a social media handle !

What concerns me more is what @Livvy said. From my perspective we are night and day different to other football forums (as a contrast toxic bluemoon and shed end forums) even arguably better communities like redcafe and RAWK. But it’s given me good food for thought that Livvy feels like we have become less welcoming.

Livvy’s thinly-veiled attack on me is utter nonsense.

Everyone knows that “bloody foreigners” is one of my standard jokes and used ironically, as I have often been called a foreigner even though I was born in London. I only correct the grammar of users I know well, and certainly don’t do so with new users. And I haven’t told anyone to “Google it!” in ages- again, I only make that joke with established posters on the forum.

Going back to the pub analogy, I think it’s like a village pub. Everyone knows each other, some with more familiarity than others, lots of inside jokes. It might look intimidating to a newcomer for sure, but I think those who choose to dip their toes in and join in will find their welcome here.

Not that it counts (as @livvy would ask), but I can vouch for @Livvy and @cynicaloldgit being good people. Sometimes the internet…

And yes @cynicaloldgit is one of those people who eats dogs.

All us foreigners do.

I think we are welcoming, when people join.

I think we might not lok so welcoming to anyone considering joining.

And I really get the in joke stuff, but I think it becomes a bit stale after a while.

In a village pub a joke every five minutes about fucking korma would end up in a row

See this is where my limited life experience gets me. I haven’t cracked a joke about korma in a village pub yet. Maybe someday. I’m not sure I’ve accumulated enough good korma for that yet though…

I agree. Also, agree with Cynicaloldgit thoughts regarding “bloody foreigners” (I suspect most do if they are honest) and I felt that was a bit too much. If what Livvy said somehow spirals into a “cynicaloldgit” must moderate himself thing, then I must protest, despite truly liking and respecting Livvy a lot.

I agree with much of the rest Livvy is saying, some of it I had not thought of and was food for thoughts. I very much value her.

I get insulted and infuriated too, but by different things. I loath disinformation, I have issues with also misinformation if the person who misinforms does not acknowledge that he/she is wrong, spin and then ethics I suppose. With me it is more what I view as really important in life. And then I also have had some very bad days where I have snapped for different reasons too. Others are incensed, and yes hurt, by different things.

But Cynicaloldgit I must defend. He plays a role. It is obvious for me. He is a role player, though he would perhaps not use that word himself. Very easy for me to recognice since my go to hobby apart from football, is well, old school role playing games. But I adore him for it. He never goes out of character with his snark and gloom; but he never hides his opinions on general ethics, politics or anything that actually matters. But he will call you a bloody foreigner, he will snark, always. And very often he says rather impolite things to me, but it’s sport. It’s never ever malicious. If I told him I was having a bad day, he would never continue. You can write him, you can talk to him, he has is a kind and thougthful man and for me his social forum mask is obvious and it makes me a bit sad that not everyone sees it. He won’t go out of character for me, not for Livvy, not for peaches, not for a moderator. He is consistent and I love the consistency myself and would hope that it continues. He will grumble. Because that is what his character does. But he is a very good man, he has good morals, he has a good brain and he is not cruel. He can be spiteful, but only against those he identifies as cruel to others. I think he went too far with Kopstar at times. I understand the history and know that Kopstar was often a dickhead, but sometimes I thougth it was too much venom. But it was personal beef, not mine. But I will always defend that man to the hilt and this forum would be a poor place if Cynicaloldgit was hounded out by forcing him to go out of character (he won’t ever here, but I for one would like to meet him and converse to the soul behind the character); as the humour he brings shines a bright sun for me at least. My point is, of course he is himself, but it is exaggerated in character. Please try to see that.

So please allow me to like and value both Livvy and Cynicaloldgit.

I’ve actually already said everything, but again briefly. It’s not about me at all, but rather how we as a community affect others who come here, read along and are perhaps unsure about participating.

I told you how I feel about it here now. I didn’t attack anyone and just picked up points that happened to me personally here. I suggested that we try a little harder to be more friendly with each other and didn’t want anything personal here.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. Of course I already know when I should ignore who and what. This isn’t about me at all, but rather how it probably comes across when someone new comes along. Thank you
