You call posters who disagree with your “humour” malcontents, then you must expect a response.
I think he was slightly unhappy over the off topic thing? Based on what he wrote, he doesn’t exactly agree on the moderation and doesn’t want the culture to change because of one or two whining malcontent? But response was that the moderation is necessary because amongst other reasons, a couple of well regarded posters decided to leave the forum. So now maybe he is also deciding to ‘step’ away from the forum to make his point?
That’s what I saw from his last few posts. Hope he is on a forum break and will come back soon.
I never understood why people needed to “leave”, it’s just a forum, a virtual one. Unlike Hotel California, no one is holding us captive here and we can stop and start anytime.
Given that it is summer, it is always possible that he i just on holiday and having a break from everything. I rather miss his curmudgeonliness. It adds levity to the proceedings.
I don’t. It went a bit too far and not only did it give him carte blanche to blatantly insult people it also gathered around a clique weirdly reminiscent of a gaggle of teenage girls with their queen bee, ’ Cynnie this, Cynnie that’ even when Cynnie himself had nothing whatsoever to do with the topic at hand. Congrats to Mr Git, he somehow managed to gather a cult following on the internet but I can’t say I will miss having to see it play out everyday.
The Wirtz thread was a bit of a nadir here on TAN. I’ve had my fair share of confrontations down the years and provided my fair share of snarkiness back but cant think of anything like having to wade through all that day after day or coming back on a Monday after a busy weekend, especially while waiting on tenterhooks for actual news.

Yeah, I’ve thought about taking a longer break many a times for a several reasons. It’s been a while since I took a proper break now. I probably should.

Sorry to disappoint @GermanRed , but I am still very much alive.
I’m half-tempted to return, just to piss off those fuckwits @wyld.at.hrt and @Quicksand .
But I wont. Not until this idiotic clampdown on off-topic posts (which @ZinedineBiscan has already confirmed has no actual definition) is revoked.
The thing is, we are a very disparate group of people from all over the world, from very different cultural backgrounds and life experiences. All we have in common is our love for LFC.
Within our ranks there are bound to be lots of different personalities and characteristics which won’t always get along smoothly.
I think I am slightly ‘on the spectrum’ and have the kind of mind that naturally follows associations and sidetracks. I can easily fall into the trap of taking a conversation away from its original theme. For example, in the Kerkez thread there was talk of giving the green light, which immediately made me think of ‘Tell Me When My Light Turns Green’ by Dexy’s Midnight Runners. I had to fight myself not to go down that rabbit hole.
The person behind the user name Cynical Old Git seems to be heavily depressed, even his choice of moniker indicates that, and many of his nihilistic statements were actually quite sad. Although we’re not therapists and can’t be expected to support each other’s personality issues, we can, at least be aware that there are real people behind the avatars with real issues and reasons for how they are.
Case in fucking point. Fuck knows how you managed to create the one persona allowed to insult and castigate with impunity on the basis of, ‘well it’s just the way he is’.
