The Arsenal Thread

If we’ve won our 4 games then I wouldn’t be that worried.

Having relooked at when their last sustained form was it’s these games they’ve played in the reverse fixtures.

Yeah obviously if we keep winning they’re not a consideration.

Right now, Arsenal need to gain 1 point every 3 games to catch LFC. That comes down to winning every game and LFC drawing 1 every 6. Were both sides to keep that pace, it is a two horse race.

Running off 4 straight wins, even if Arsenal does likewise, doubles the rate of gain they need, to essentially needing Liverpool to draw 1 in 3 while they win all their matches.

The reality is I don’t think either side is going to be that consistent over the entire stretch to the finish.

As long as we don’t fall apart - and I really can’t see that happening - we should be good. It feels to me like we just had our slump with 13 points from 21. Then back to winning ways with Darwhizzy.

Arsenal don’t have it in them to win regularly enough.
I was thinking Chelsea might be a threat, but they have just had a bad spell and are more of a top four proposition now.

Man City have had a bad season, but there are signs they are getting it back together again. They might be a shout for finishing second, as they could put in a great run again, but they are too far behind us, surely, to get in a title fight.

It’s not over, and I don’t take anything for granted. But I do not see anyone out there who can overtake us, as long as we keep doing the business as we have been.

Ideally over the next few games we keep our lead or even extend it slightly. All the while the games are running out. We have a couple of very tough fixtures near the end, but my hope is that it is all over by then.

I was talking about Man City.

But yeah anyhow 1 game at a time.

Said it in another thread, if City finish above us then we’re finishing 4th or 5th because it wont just be them.
We will have fallen off a cliff and lost 7 or 8 games for City to finish above us.

Am I the only one in here thinking that the Abu Dhabi cheaters could very well go on a winning run between now and the end of the season? Not saying that they’ll do it, and hopefully they’ll lose further points before they get back to top form, but I still see them as the most dangerous proposition out there, despite the current 12 points separating us from them.

On the other hand, I can’t see Arsenal being able to put on a truly consistent winning run.

Based on what? Them putting six past Ipswich?

Prior to that, they coughed up a two goal lead to draw with Brentford.

For a moment I thought you were replying to @Nikola

Their record in previous seasons isn’t something to overlook imo. There have roughly the same squad, fortunately for us with quite some injuries hampering them. But when they’ll recover all their key players, they’ll most probably get to their usual level again.

I can’t remember who it was, perhaps it was @Limiescouse, was pointing out elsewhere that they had already been playing like that prior to Rodri’s injury. So perhaps it’s simply one of those things where the injuries are just a distraction.

Before I worry they are BACK I’d like to see them do more than hammer a relegation team.

Since their really horrendous run, they have picked up some wins, bit also amidst that some defeats and draws. There is nothing yet to suggest a revision to their imperious form of previous seasons.

Arsenal are struggling to win games if they play every three days.

Out of the FA Cup, likely to be out of the League Cup and likely to avoid CL Playoff that will help them massively even without Saka.

I’ll make the point on Man City at no point have they won 3 games on the bounce since the start of the season.

Which ironically was over the same period of fixtures as they do now. It’s probably good it’s Chelsea next in a way, if it had been another minnow they would have sat back for a spanking based on the Ipswich game.

Regarding us and them if that was who it was then we don’t need to win at their ground a draw would be suffice.

They already need to pick up 0.75 points every round over the rest of the season to catch LFC. That means we go W3L1, they need to go W4 - and that sequence has to repeat 4 times. Sure, it can happen, but each time they drop points it becomes even more difficult. In particular, the match against LFC can all but eliminate them - with even a draw making the remaining sequence improbable.

Conflicting info on how long Saliba is out for Arsenal from 3 weeks to done essentially for season.

Yeah, you are right, it will be difficult for them and we’d need to implode (which isn’t a thing of impossibility btw. It will all depend on injuries, or lack of imo) for them to catch up. Still, if we manage to bring the title home, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them finish second. I simply don’t trust Arsenal’s and Chelsea’s consistency resisting to a winning run from the cheaters towards the end of the season.

Anyway, hopefully we will be spared by severe injuries to key players. In that case, we should be able to bring it home. :crossed_fingers:

So back for City next week.

From what I read about it I would be surprised if the current issue would keep him out of the season. However, abdominal strains like this are difficult to judge and are prone to over estimating how well recovered it is leading to set backs. So this was something I raised last week as, especially it is already a recurrence, it is something that has to potential to ruin his season if they aren’t patient.

Poor LegoMan! It’s unfathomable how he has been able to field a team with these injuries let alone play such pure joyful football. David Moyes is surely going to have to pass on his ‘manager of the decade’ title at the end of the season.
