The Arsenal Thread

I know, but if Arsenal are close enough to Liverpool at the time they will revisit that game a thousand times

As long as they put the 89 title up I’d be happy with that wager.

Shearer is an arsehole is more appropriate.

After next weekend there is every chance City will be Arsenals closet challenger out of both.

Arsenal have had the better results against Man City in the last three games, though - and it was well before City’s meltdown. I’d definitely like them to play out a draw but I think Arsenal have the edge because of their defensive record.

I definitely prefer a City win.

Pity they can’t both lose. A draw is the next best thing.

City beat them, then get deducted points?

The last 2 league games were draws.

Tbf we’d be absolutely raging if that red card was given against us.

Agree that we need to stamp out the cynical fouls but currently you see yellow cards for that in almost every game.

Anyway, fuck’em

Really? I thought it was given for the studs on the ankle/shin whichever it was?

The Arsenal red ended making an interesting bookend with the yellow Enciso got for taking down Endo. Enciso’s tackle was horrendous, and looked so bad you immediately thought it could be red. However Enciso pretty clearly realized he had timed it wrong and turned his boot to avoid stud contact. A bad yellow, but very clearly at the last second minimized what would have been a violent collision.

Yes. The talk about what we may want refs to do for cynical fouls is not really relevant to what happened.

I agree with that, its reckless but he makes a clear attempt to pull out. I didn’t see it live but after watching the highlights I didn’t think it was as bad as a lot of people have made out. It’s a young player making a poor decision and trying his best not to follow through. He couldn’t complain if he was given a red but yellow was ok with me.

Lewis-Skelly on the other hand made sure he got the player and didn’t seem to care what he did to take him out.

My thoughts exactly - had he got a red he would not have had much basis for complaint, and VAR probably would not have bailed him out

There’s a lot worse of those every game also.

I don’t care but just saying we wouldn’t be happy

Don’t know about you, but I’d have more of a problem with whoever did it, than the referee.

Yeah, as always its the ones for which refs dont give a red that makes fans feel aggrieved when one like this is given against them. It clearly meets the criteria, but then you see shit like the double crunch of Kovacic on Arsenal players a year or two ago get waved away with a just single yellow for the collection and it leaves you scratching your head.

2 yellows in one, 1 for the cynical and the 2nd for a reckless challenge :wink::wink:
