This was my main takeaway as well, although I would add a counterpoint that I thought it looked like Paul was holding back in the last few rounds and probably could have ended it had he chosen to… but whether through respect for Tyson and/or a realisation that KOing such a popular figure within the sport would do more harm than good to his brand, chose not to.
Whether consciously or unconsciously, I think the fight was as close to a win-win for both parties as we were ever going to get taking into account the ridiculous disparity in current athletic ability - Paul got to say he beat Tyson, Tyson got to show he can still go the distance with a guy half his age, and didn’t go down.
I understand wanting to see Tyson, I just don’t understand wanting to see him fight a youtuber who got famous by being a spoilt little rich kid acting like the worst person on the internet.
Especially when the odds are intentionally tilted in the favor of the rich kid.
Its a shame this is what boxing has become, I feel sorry for people who have dedicated their professional lives to becoming elite at the sport. These people have turned it into a joke and unfortunately I don’t think it will ever recover.
I honestly feel like for most (if not all) people this was the sole attraction of the fight, hoping to see someone like Tyson destroy a twat like Jake Paul.
ultimately he just wasnt good enough to get in close to Tyson and finish it… Tyson probably just needed one good opening…
i dont agree Jake Pal held back out of respect…he just couldnt risk getting put on his arse by a 58 year old that was obviously just happy to go the distance, but would have taken the opportunity if it presented itself on a platter to him
I do agree this was likely also a factor. I read there was a leak allegedly showing an agreement that Tyson wouldn’t get paid if he KOd Paul… any truth to that, do you think?
but why would Tyson agree to that fight?..it cant be becuase he needs to fight Paul, f or all Jake Pauls claims that hes the money maker, the one the boxing world needs to see, the guy everyone wants to fight etc etc etc…no ones watching that fight unless Iron Mikes in it…
iron mike could have fought me and we would have still had the big Netflix show and filled an arena…if Jake Paul fought me it could have been held at the local pub
Are there no local gyms you could visit, if you want to gain some insight, before lusting after a 58 year old convicted rapist with sciatica and a bleeding stomach ulcer pretending to train for a pretend fight against the more retarded of the Paul brothers?
I just read that Izzy Vasquez died from cancer at just 46.
He was one of the best little guys in the sport at a time when there was growing commercial interest in the little guys and some opportunities to allow them to headline cards. He did as much as anyone to change the perception of fights at this weight being just being tippy tap contests that inevitably go to the scorecards. His run of fights from the rematch with Larios through the first 3 Marquez fights to his first retirement are as good and devastating a series of performances/fights against opposition that good from a little guy as you will ever see.
