Ken Buchannan - looks like a primary school teacher but tough as nails
‘I think with Eubank, if he’d not got up in the first round and I’d knocked him out- would I be as good as I was? Probably not. I think that experience of me going to hell and back and he said one thing before the fight that I’ll never forget. I was cocky and brash and he said, ‘I’m going to take you to one place you’ve never been - the trenches.’ I didn’t know what the trenches were but trust me, after 7 or 8 rounds in that fight, I knew exactly what he meant.’
- Joe Calzaghe
Would love to see this…
*Joe Calzaghe says he will make a return to boxing to face Jake Paul with a $10 million offer! *
Calzaghe told Boxing News: “Would I get in the ring with Jake Paul? Let’s say for £10 million. That would keep me happy. As long as I don’t have to make weight for the fight, give me about four or five months’ training and I’ll be good!”
:0)
Very deserved win for Crawford over Canelo, extra 4.5" reach that Canelo just couldn’t properly deal with
That comfortable win has just put Crawford as the best of his generation.
Sad news. RIP Ricky
Surely he wasn’t just 46 was he?
I’m 46 and I swear he was a few years older than me
One of the best fights you’ll see. Not necessarily the most exciting, but the quality on show and level of intent from both guys was generational. Too many fights at this level are cagey, but not these two. And often title fights with this level of action are because there are weaknesses that can be exploited. This was just two incredible guys doing incredible things
There was a round, maybe the 6th, that had Calzaghe-Lacy vibes. Canelo had his first good round and Crawford acted like he realized he could take the best of what Canelo could land and in the next round didnt just out box him, but stood his ground and out fought him. It was difficult to see Canelo finding a way to win it after that.
Rest In Ricky Hatton. You had one of the biggest hearts in boxing. You will be sorely missed.
Canelo is two years younger than Golovkin was when they first fought to an imaginary draw.
Yeah he’s sneaky old now, especially as he came on the scene so young having started fighting professionally at 15.
He hasn’t put anyone down since Plant in ‘21. He was such an animal, and it feels like his drop off was particularly steep, even though he’s technically been winning fights and championships since.
I’m a big fan of Canelo, but all things being equal, it’s hard to argue he was ever better than Golovkin at their peaks.
Canelo is dead. Long live Canelo.
I think that is correct and think he got very favourable judging in those fights. I think you have to question if the weight fuckery he’s gone through trying to find weight classes where there are viable fights for him, and doing it at the later stage of his career, has finally slowed him down. But ultimately if people looked at him and thought he was not quite as good as they were led to believe the most likely explanation is Crawford is just a better caliber of fighter than he’s faced since he fought Floyd and that’s what fighters like that make you look like.
This guy would get my vote every day and twice on Sunday..
Joe Calzaghe has been named the greatest British boxer in history by the British Boxing Hall of Fame, an accolade determined by a poll of historians and writers. The undefeated Welshman, who retired with a 46-0 record, received this honor at the Hall of Fame’s ceremony in Hastings.
