While I agree we need a CB I also think another midfielder is essential. Basically we have to pony up for both this summer if we want to get serious about not wasting this season. Spending the extra ~20-50m cash to push us back into the CL next season is just smart risk taking at this point - otherwise we’d be better off selling the likes of Mo now, writing the season off and completely retooling.
Our options in #8 roles are better than the guys who left. Experience is one thing but ox and keita for all their ability were rarely fit. What good is having them. Milner showed himself to be mortal.
We’ve got the likes of Macca / Jones / sobz / Elliot / Clark for two of the three midfield slots. Those are upgrades to the guys who’ve left.
All that matters now for midfield is to get a CDM. I do believe that Liverpool are looking for someone more accomplished and experienced. We fail to get the guy before a deadline , we’ll put the money in for Lavia.
Nothing to do with lacking in effort, it’s having that tactical awareness. We conceded 2 goals and conceded 2 clear chances that first half against Bayern mostly because the gaps between the CB’s and the midfield were too big. There was no Nunez that first half to blame for the “defending from the high press” being at fault. We can all brush it off and say “it’s just a pre-season game” and yeah I get it, surface isn’t brilliant and the conditions are tough to play against but if we took those performances into the league next week we’ll face the same problems we did last season. Also our set piece defending is still abject.
I wouldn’t even mind just a destroyer like Paulinha coming in at this point. Not Paulinha Someone younger , better than him but who does the role of stopping attacks.
Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but we’re bound to pick up injuries to midfield players (Thiago obviously). So, with that in mind we haven’t got the necessary cover in the squad. I would say at least one, preferably two more should be signed.
The game is more about transitions. I daresay Klopp is looking at someone who does both the #6 and the #8 job. We’ve got guys to do the #8 and #10.
But the space on the pitch between the #6 and the #8 , that’s what we want our new guy to operate at.
We play the high lines as we usually do and we get a destroyer there in that role who still can both run with the ball as well as do forward passing.
This isn’t the first time I’d mention Sangare , but his stats are pretty much in line with what we are looking at.
Plus a CB.
Melissa looks a bit different now
I hadnt heard that interview before, but this seems she’s reading tea leaves based on what appear to be a very questionable interpretation of who the two players are. In terms of the breakdown of the profiles she identifies, I’d argue that both Lavia and Trindade are far more in her progressive destroyer category based on the way she describes it. You can argue about that categorization of them, but when the alternative is a controller who offers what Thiago does, then they’re clearly both on the other end (especially when you factor in a key part of the other profile is intelligent use of the ball quickly after they win it). Furthermore, if you were pick which one of them was closer to the Thiago profile than other I think it’s pretty questionable to say that would be Trindade.
We don’t know how the new signings and the young players will develop this season but I’m expecting us to make it back to CL.
And if we are on course for that we should be aiming higher than Andre. Maybe that’s the point where we will go for Tchouameni or Valverde (or similar quality).
Will definitely be short in quantity without Thiago and the idea of replacing a departing player in January worked great for us (Jota for Origi, Diaz for Mané, Gakpo for Firmino) - so I’m all in for it.
Is he a progressive?
Melissa Reddy has 2 sisters from different fathers, Melissa Getset, Melissa Go.

Hmmmm. I think this may be late stage gasband. Certainly not a patch on the horse oeuvre
Clearly a fake piece trying to pass of as the work of a great.
@gasband works are well known to include seagulls, which this whilst very good, doesn’t include any signiture seagulls so is obviously of inferiour quality
This is brilliant
Class work
Shows the progession of a progressive runner
