CONMEBOL is a pretty good federation, very high level of play (if a bit crazy at times), it is just a matter of an awkward number to organize. Far easier to invite the heavyweights from CONCACAF than to deal with the merge - CONCACAF qualifying is incredibly complicated, because of the 41 teams, perhaps 10 are going to be competitive. UEFA can simply throw the San Marinos into a playoff and organize around the powers, CONCACAF is a federation of minnows.
Mexico regularly plays in it, and this is the second time the US has hosted. One way or another, it will be an ongoing thing.
Starts Nunez hopefully the headlines stay on the pitch.
Canada’s kits are a nice shade of red.
Canada
Stupid penalties from Canada. These people are average at everything.
Well, Canada threw that away. Should’ve parked the bus after they got the second.
Was a very good game to watch. Lots of open play, and Canada looked like winning it for a good bit of time, until…Suarez.
Congratulations to Canada for playing so well, and to Jesse Marsch, for giving Earnie Stewart and US Soccer a much deserved
Canada played so well?
Not if you look at the details…
I am weirdly optimistic for that precise reason - lots of little errors, the penalties are best forgotten, but writ large if you had put money on Canada playing for 3rd and taking a power like Uruguay to penalties, you would have had a decent payoff. That may well be the best overall result Canada has ever had in international football, yet there are obvious areas of improvement that frankly should not take a great deal to realize. Marsch has been in the job for just eight weeks.
Luis Suarez scored the equaliser in added time.
Fucking morons - final will have a 25 minute half time break to accommodate a half time show from Shakira
I won’t be watching the second then
What time does halftime start?
…asking for a friend.
Amazing how he fits that in with posting drivel on here.
Odds on Diaz’s dad making it onto stage as a back up dancer I’d say are 50-50
After Bielsa’s criticism - angry, but spot on - this is just another data point to call into question America’s ‘fit’ for hosting top level football tournaments.
The extended halftime show calls to mind the way Apollo Creed came into the ring to fight Ivan Drago.
It’s all fun and games, but at some point the actual sporting contest has to be uppermost in mind.
Led in possession, shots, shots on target, and corners. Which details?
Not winning?
