I’ll give you a 2.1 wave.
Also a possible change in dynamics due to the new variant.
I am now watching the French graphics more closely to see if they get a new kick start.
I agree. Perhaps he hasn’t exaggerated the possible higher risk but I think they have most certainly used it as an “excuse”. I think we’re in broad agreement.
Only earlier in the week Johnson was calling out Starmer for wanting to “cancel Christmas”. 2-3 days later what does he do? He needs a valid reason for the u turn. The science gave him one. I agree we may have been lucky. Without that call they would have undoubtedly just ignored the rising numbers.
It’s interesting that Ireland graph shape echos that of the UK one yet hasn’t yet the new variant (even in N. Ireland the new variant hasn’t ‘appeared’ yet apparently).
Mutations and fun statistics: Percentage of AfD votes in election 2017 vs Covid-19 infection rates December 2020.
This and the reluctance to wear masks. I still cannot believe masks have not been made compulsory every where outside your own home.
I guess after 30 years of seeing politicians and journalists garble mathematical/scientific/statistical concepts like confidence intervals and prediction ranges, often deliberately for their own purposes, I see a line there that you perhaps do not. The politician who says ‘there is no need to overreact because impact is x -10’ and the journalist who condemns inaction because impact ‘could be as high as x +10’ are both manipulating the scientists’ work that said x +/-10. But at least the science is defining the field.
You noted that earlier, but that graphic really gets the point across!
Erm, no, not at all. It was simply slippage from chinese whispers on the main point.
I’ve just received an email from Costco. From 23/12, all members must wear a face covering, or entry will be refused. People who are medically exempt, must wear a face shield or they will also be refused entry.
This is long overdue, but I doubt supermarkets will do the same.
The thing is, the supermarkets and transport have had the right to do this since day 1, but have not had the balls to enforce it.
Was it not already mandatory to wear masks indoors in retail settings in the UK.
Yes, by law it is mandatory, but the supermarkets argue that it’s not their responsibility to enforce it. They’re terrified of civil litigation, so much so, they don’t detain people for theft anymore, because they get sued for assault, they just ban them from the store.
Are there many people not wearing them or just the odd person? Is this why numbers have always been relatively high in england?
Yes when it is merely touching, part of the ongoing debacle. Liability for the spoken word is another growth area of shite. Mind you, rightly, Im terrified of civil litigation and Im qualified
Can i sue you for guitar advice that is likely to result in me spending more than I really should?
No but Mrs Noo Noo maybe…
