The Corona Pandemic

It’s had 3 months!

Thats sounds persuasive but on closer analysis its still unrealistic; that a new mutation enters multiple ports, and ONLY ports, to the exclusion of other points of entry. If innocently it has had 3 months, why are the bubbles of spread similar?

Yes, although onward transmission through mutual contacts (say a port/customs inspector) is not inconceivable.

Yes, but the probabilities are falling like lead.

Certainly would if it were Naval ships.
As for transporting stuff you would need an incredible knowledge of these ports to conclude what you have.
I am not proposing anything btw leaving all doors open except simultanious import as that doesn’t fit.

Agreed, but then we have multifarious points of origin problems too.

I havent concluded anything apart from remoteness of probability.

The remoteness of the possibility of propagation of a virus from one port to another?
I’m obviously not following you.
I mean why origins? it’s just the spread we are looking at.

The Sikh Community are fantastic. They ar3ealways are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with their Langar (free community kitchen) for everyone.

Shame on the British government for not at least providing these long haulage drivers the basic amenities such as sanitary facilities and food. These drivers are caught in the middle.

Serious question, what happens to all the Lorry drivers that might get tested positive for Corona tomorrow? They would have to be quarantined there somewhere??
Are they preparing for it? Fingers crossed that there are very few.

Hot food and sanitary facilities have been provided to the drivers. Shame on the French government for their knee jerk reaction to this.

Boris govt should have warned the French govt what was happening before hand, but Boris is a lastminute.com incompetent PM.

The French government have the right to close their borders to reduce the spread of the Covid variant and protect their citizens, unless the UK govt can provide tests to all the drivers for Covid before they leave the UK.

Its a shame the UK govt didn’t protect their frontline NHS workers (with adequate PPE) from March, then we wouldn’t have had the highest death rate of Coronavirus in Europe.

Not sure Johnson could have notified France before he knew himself.

We should definitely have done more to protect and support the NHS but we don’t have the highest death rate from coronavirus in Europe.

It’s an idea for a new tv show - the Chunnel gets shut down because of pandemic travel restrictions and we stick all those who need to quarantine in there. A new distopian society develops…lord of the flies style

There is probably a secret government conspiracy involved somewhere. And tits.

I would watch that, especially if HBO made it !

It means that policy makers in Germany are still worried about this reported mutation though, despite some virologists not being that worried. Precautions of course, but still.

At least if HBO made it, there would be a nice female body (and male, if that’s your preference) with not too much clothes on, to enjoy for a few seconds.

Fairly staggering article in FP about Sweden’s covid strategy. One has to question how Swedes can trust their government on anything from now on - not just the incompetence, but the state-sanctioned dishonesty at so many levels.

This is pretty old. Was in the Norwegian and Swedish papers many months ago (all those e-mails were transcribed). Some discussion took place. I didn’t post it here at the time since everything was in Norwegian or Swedish and would have amounted to a day’s workload of translation for me. Many of these e-mails were also between Tegnell and his crew and Norwegian experts. Tegnell spent many months trying to persuade us to follow the same strategy and he has been completely convinced that herd immunity was the best option, and that it would be reached by the summer. Then the truth dawned, but by then, it was all too late. Much of what Sweden hasn’t done, is actually because they deemed it too late, because the initial strategy failed and so on. Giescke, Tegnell’s mentor, has cheered it on. Giescke has written irate op-eds and sent irate e-mails, claiming that it was Tegnell who knew and had the relevant expertise, and that lockdown measures were bonkers. And so on, and so on. Turned out that Anders Tegnell’s expertise in combating Ebola, could not be easily extrapolated to Covid…

I could have a look and google a bit if people are interested in details.

Ps. As for the government, Sweden took this approach: “Let our health experts run the entire show”. Only recently, after things have gone wrong and most people have understood that it has gone gravely wrong, have the government actually taken the reins. Because prior to a month or two ago, the Swedish PM, the Swedish government, had nothing to do with the Corona strategy, they relegated absolutely everything to Anders Tegnell and his minions in “Folkhelsoinstituttet”, thought to be one of the worlds greatest experts on transmittable diseases. And his former boss, Giescke (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_Giesecke ) , as stated, send several e-mails trying to persuade man and mouse to agree with his boy Tegnell. Giescke has pushed Tegnell’s approach extremely aggressively, to the point where he has ridiculed dissent in his mails and blasted doctors who were skeptical in e-mails. Our experts got for instance angry e-mails from Giescke, where we were blasted for irresponsibility and so on. They really, really, really believed, that lock down was extremely counter productive and opposed to science.
