The Corona Pandemic

I think the word “learn” at the top of your post is incorrect. Makes it sound like we’re facing a thinking entity. I suspect it’s more accurate to say that the strains of the disease that become the most infectious are those that don’t kill people as those that do kill by definition, die.

Dont infract me for repetition, but I give you…the age of postmodernism.

What are people doing for Xmas in terms of not meant to be mixing?
It was just my 4 and mother in law on Xmas day but I was having my mate and his family round on Boxing Day.
Then Boris the cunt put us in tier 4 after saying he wouldn’t but here’s the thing…my lot and my mates lot have had COVID tests and are COVID free (he has been working in void properties and everyone else been working from home and not been out) so why can’t we mix? It’s so annoying.

I heard they can’t fine you and won’t be checking if you do mix as technically it’s not legally enforceable.

Anyone know anything about it.

I don’t really feel like doing anything now. If I had my way I’d take down the tree and just treat Xmas day like any other day.

Going ‘solo’ this Christmas. First Chrissy with just the wife and kids. We all decided as a family last month it wasn’t worth the risk going to France to have Christmas with in-laws, nor to have the in-laws to come over here.

Yeah I wouldn’t go abroad either.

This isn’t the time to travel. The best is to stay put and to observe the official limitation for the number of people gathering together.

We’ll fragment Christmas into several different moments, in order to limit the number of people of our families being together. We’ll also be extra careful with our older ones.

It’s not ideal at all, but hey, it’s not a usual situation we are in, so…

I am not joining my son for our normal XMas with his wife’s familly nor is his father in law. We are both at risk categories. However my son is staying 2 nights with me so he can go and also see his mother and familly (1/2 brothers and sisters etc). That keeps a ‘barrier’ between the at risk group and the healthy ones. Then I live in France and restrictions have been relaxed for the festive period (the situationappears very different to the UK’s).

As of 1 today, just the 3 of us till the 27th when I’ll get a taxi to work (sure as hell won’t be driving!) Fridge full, a gazillion presents and all external family presents Amazoned. My idea of heaven  Been wanting to do this since we’ve been married. Finally get my own way. To make it perfect I just need to get my wicked way too!

Tier 4 for most of the country from Boxing Day btw. Good, click and collect makes life SO much easier for us…

My mother and her partner are coming over, they have been completely isolating for 13 days, as have we. My brothers’ families are not able to manage that level of isolation (older children, including adults), so all other family contact will be over Zoom this year.

BBC News:

The new variant of coronavirus is almost certainly in the majority of European countries already, according to Prof Neil Ferguson, from Imperial College London.

He was giving evidence to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee alongside other experts from the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group, which advises government.

The variant has already been detected in other countries such as Denmark, but is likely to have spread much wider.

Prof Ferguson said: “I’m almost certain in my view, that this virus has been introduced into the great majority if not all European countries at this time.”

The UK has sequenced 45% of all the genetic codes of coronavirus in the world and it is still not certain whether it originated in the south east of England or was just first detected there.

This has raised concerns the UK is being punished for discovering the variant.

At the same hearing, Prof Peter Horby, from the University of Oxford, said: "I think it’s fair to say countries that have more extensive and rigorous science and are more transparent do expose themselves to important information being made available to others.”

It seems logical that it has spread wider than we currently know, but when you have countries managing things through case numbers then they are clearly doing a very important first step.

The UK sadly needs a new variant to jump into action. Case numbers dont seem to matter as much

I’m not very good at maths, but it looks like there are "slightly " more than just 170 Lorries.

Oh goody, another new mutation discovered in the UK. Thought to be more infectious than the last mutation. Apparently came from South Africa (@wyld.at.hrt)

They should ask if it has spread to Scotland and Wales first shouldn’t they?
Apparently it is not in N Ireland. But could be all over Europe including Ireland?

I thought this was a fairly artful version of the Manston footage.

If it’s in Ireland then it’s also in the North. We need to take it that whatever is in one country either is or soon will be in every country and take appropriate steps to limit its spread amongst our citizens as best as we can.

I think it’s been mentionned in a post/s above that it hasn’t been detected in N. Ireland yet. This suggestion is what prompted my comment. :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s cos the North (the DUP) won’t admit to, allow or change anything before checking with the English government first. They may be waiting for approval from London on when to release the information.

Yeah. Was reported last week and is thought to be more infectious with higher viral loads. This below will shed a little bit more of the earlier info from last week:

A significant proportion of the population could not give two fucks though and a significant driver of wave two was the Matric Rage event in Ballito three weeks ago; think Spring Break with teenagers just finished matric drinking and fucking their socks off. It’s already been identified by the government as one big week long super spreader and why they let it take place is beyond me.

I’m in Margate and holiday season is on full swing. Government guidelines are in place but people are just fucking thick. I’m sorry but there is no other way to describe it.
